John Sickels, MinorLeagueBall, reviews his pre-season prospect chart for the Cubbies :

" ...  2) Felix Pie ... .256/.321/.404 in 70 games for Triple-A Iowa. Disappointing. The tools are still here but his baseball skills have stalled out against better competition. Still young enough to improve though."

" ... 4) Eric Patterson ...  at Double-A West Tennessee, hitting .284/.346/.444 with 21 steals, not spectacular but solid enough."

" ... 6) Donald Veal ...  2.69 in 14 starts for Class A Peoria, 86/40 K/BB in 74 innings, just 45 hits allowed. Needs to improve his control, but has just a .179 opposition batting average. Doing well and should rise up the lists as the season progresses."

Shane Lindsay COL back in Low A-Ball as he rounds into form.

" ...   "He's got three pitches," said Marc Gustafson, Rockies director of player development. "When you look at pitchers in general, you look at guys that can offer a variety of pitches three or four times through the lineup. We see Shane as a front of the rotation guy." "It's a special arm," added Ron Gideon, the Rockies' minor-league field coordinator who managed Lindsay with the Dust Devils last summer. "You've got a guy who set a record here last year for strikeouts. He has a live fastball. At the end it explodes. He throws a spike curveball that's got 12 to 6 action on it. You just don't run across arms like that."  ... Lindsay's ungodly fastball held Northwest League hitters to a .164 batting average against him last season, and his 6-1 record, 1.89 ERA and 107 strikeouts were a testament to his domination ... Despite his potential and promise, Lindsay is starting the season with the Dust Devils again because of health problems. First, it was a problem with the dreaded labrum injury ... never felt a pull or a pop, but there was a gradual grabbing in his follow through and a longer recovery time in between starts ... Rockies determined that rehab to strengthen the muscles around the labrum would sufficiently hold the shoulder in place. Then, Lindsay came down with a mysterious gland problem in extended spring training that left him too weak to pitch effectively. So now the 6-foot-1 powerhouse is back for the Dust Devils, building up his health while rocking the radar guns."  (Tri-City Herald)

Scott McClain followed with an infield single, but Weaver regained his momentum and retired the final seven batters. In his second start since returning from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the former first-round draft pick struck out the side in the ninth to break his own franchise record for strikeouts in a game. " ... Another game, another near-no-hitter for Phil Hughes. Hughes took a no-hitter into the eighth inning as he pitched the Trenton Thunder to a 4-0 victory ...  Yankees' top pitching prospect, Hughes (4-3) flirted with a no-hitter for the second time this month. The longest outing of his brief professional career came on the eve of his 20th birthday. The right-hander retired the first 12 batters he faced before issuing up a leadoff walk in the top of the fifth. He lost his no-hit bid when Derin McMains stroked a leadoff double on a first-pitch fastball in the eighth ...  The 2004 first-round draft pick struck out 10 and walked two over eight innings ... Opponents are batting just .187 with 37 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings against him. Over his last three starts, Hughes is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 22 frames. Hughes also took a no-hitter into the sixth on June 13 in a 3-0 win over New Hampshire. He nearly turned the trick twice in 2005, once in Charleston and once in Tampa."  (MLB.com)

Tim Lincecum voted the winner of the Golden Spikes Award :

" ...  Lincecum, a two-time Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year (2004, 2006) ... started 17 games for the Huskies, going 12-4 with a 1.94 ERA and a nation-best 199 strikeouts in 125 1/3 innings. In his April 18 start against the UCLA Bruins, Lincecum struck out 18 on the way to a 5-0 victory. As a result of Lincecum's collegiate efforts, his draft stock skyrocketed ...  selected by the San Francisco Giants with the No. 10 overall pick ...  the school's career record holder in multiple pitching categories including wins (30), innings pitched (342) and strikeouts (491). ... "getting very close to where I'm going to put on a San Francisco -- or whatever farm team in their system -- hat," Lincecum said. " Signing is getting very close. " MLB.com

TEX decides it's time to move 'em up :

" ...  Left-handed starter John Danks took what general manager Jon Daniels described as a "big step" Thursday. He was promoted to Oklahoma and will make his first career Triple-A start Saturday. "John's commanding his three pitches well now, carrying a lot of the positives we saw this spring into his starts now," Daniels said. "He's been very impressive the last two months."  Danks was 4-0 with a 2.70 ERA and 54 strikeouts in his last eight starts at Double-A Frisco. He struggled with his mechanics earlier this season but found his fastball command and rebounded. He missed a few starts in May with elbow soreness but appears to be fine. Now he gets the chance to see how he does against better hitters."  (Dallas Morning News)

Could be some movement soon in the COL system (in addition to trading Ryan Shealy) :

" ...  The Rockies are working through the timing of promoting blossoming pitchers Manuel Corpas and Ubaldo Jimenez and catcher Chris Iannetta to Triple-A. No move is expected until next week, when the Sky Sox return from their road trip ... Kaz Matsui, meanwhile, is sidelined until next week because of a back injury. The Rockies won't revisit giving Clint Barmes a breather in the minor leagues "  (Denver Post)

John Sickels, MinorLeagueBall, reviewing his pre-season LAA picks :

" ...  7) Thomas Mendoza ...  4.97 in 15 starts for Class A Cedar Rapids, 77/20 K/BB in 92 innings, 98 hits allowed. More hittable than expected, but his control is good. Needs more time to develop."

" ... 8) Steven Shell ...  3.39 with 47/19 K/BB in 77 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. Throwing strikes, but I think he needs a good dose of Triple-A before being pushed into a full major league role."

" ... 9) Nick Adenhart ...  9-2, 2.08 in 14 starts for Cedar Rapids, 89/21 K/BB in 90 innings, 72 hits and just two homers allowed. Doing great, throwing hard, throwing strikes, no ill effects from Tommy John procedure."

Joey Devine ATL heading back to A-Ball in an attempt to rescue his career :

" ... Devine was rushed to the majors last season. Now the 2005 first-round draft choice is retracing his steps, starting over in Class A. After not pitching for more than two months, Devine joined the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Wednesday after having his back checked out Monday in Atlanta and getting a final OK. The Braves believe that a slight change in his delivery will be beneficial to Devine's health as well as his success on the mound. He isn't on the fast track back to Atlanta, however. "We'll take it slow with him," Braves director of minor league operations J.J. Picollo said."  (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

23 June, 2006

Thanks to Jason Collette, RotoJunkie, for a nice plug for our little enterprise in a piece on free on-line sources for prospectors.  Nice work.  Check it out.   Also, for our work on the other half of the site, Western Canada Baseball, we've received a little publicity in Canada's Globe and Mail.

Please welcome Mike Feifel who will be handling the Appy prospects and Thom Hanson, checking out the Northwest League.  Mike is a high school teacher (Social Studies) and football coach who also dabbles as a sports writer for the Lehighton Times-News where he has his own column covering the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system.  Thom joins us from the Bay area. He is a 10 year Scoresheet owner and has been participating in fantasy sports for nearly 25 years. Each year he spends opening weekend in Vegas for a live draft with a set of owners who will celebrate their 25th year anniversary together next year. Welcome !

We are grateful to Joe McAnally and Aman Reaka for returning to the fold.  Joe is back in familiar territory, the Pioneer League, while Aman is gearing up to keep tabs on the Gulf Coast loop (the early start of games works well for his schedule). And, of course, a major round of applause for Herb and Harry, Jimmy, Wayne, Bob and Martin who've been such a tower of power all season long.  And, a tip of the cap to Brian Carruthers who's aboard to cover the NYP and was gracious in dealing with the responses to my typo (noting his "40' decades as an umpire!

We still have a couple of spots where we can use your assistance.  So, if inclined to do a little prospecting, please drop me a line.   When everybody gets aboard, the list should look something like :

" ... Jaime Garcia has been promoted to the Palm Beach Cardinals of the Florida State League, the St. Louis Cardinals announced Thursday ...  Garcia, a native of Reynosa, Mexico, was selected in the 22nd round of the 2005 draft, but an arm injury delayed his professional debut until 2006. The southpaw has gone 5-4 with a 2.90 ERA in 13 starts to anchor the Swing of the Quad Cities pitching rotation, racking up 80 strikeouts in 77.2 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .229 batting average ... . selected to the Midwest League All-Star Team ...  also been tabbed to participate in the ... All-Star Futures Game."   (Swing of the Quad Cities)

Jim Callis, Baseball America, on Preston Mattingly LAD and Jeff Natale BOS:

" ...  Mattingly ... profile is somewhat unusual, which is why he didn't make our Top 200 Prospects list . His bat speed, power and advanced approach all bode well for his future at the plate, but he may have a hard time finding a defensive home. His footwork and actions aren't very smooth and his arm grades out as slightly below average. He definitely will have to move from shortstop, with third base or center field likely to be his next stop. But he may not fit at those spots either, which might make him nothing more than a very athletic left fielder or first baseman."

" ... Natale has raked since signing with Boston as a 32nd-round pick last summer ... returned to Greenville this year and lit up the South Atlantic League before moving up to high Class A Wilmington. He has cooled off in his first 13 games with the Blue Rocks (.231/.333/.423) but still is controlling the strike zone (11 walks, eight whiffs) ... His bat makes him a prospect, as his uncanny hand-eye coordination allows him to make consistent hard contact. He's similar to fellow Red Sox infield prospect Dustin Pedroia in that regard. But there are two strikes against Natale. One is that he's already 23, so while his performance has been impressive he also has been quite old for his leagues. Two is that he's a below-average defender, and if he can't cut it at second base he doesn't profile well at another position."

John Sickels, MinorLeagueBall, has begun a review of his team by team Top 20s.  Some notes so far on MIN and PHI picks :

" ...  2) Gio Gonzalez ...  3.66 in 14 starts for Double-A Reading, with 93/39 K/BB in 84 innings. Doing just fine, only flaw is high home run allowed rate (12 already)."

" ... 3) Daniel Haigwood ...  3.55 in 14 starts for Double-A Reading, with 78/39 K/BB in 79 innings. Pitching just as well as Gonzalez. His home run rate is only half that of Gonzalez."

" ... 2) Scott Baker ... 6.06 in nine starts for the Twins before being demoted to the minors. His 41/8 K/BB in 49 innings was very good, but he gave up 66 hits and 10 homers. If anything his control was too good. I think he will be fine in the long run."

" ... 5) Matt Moses ... .243/.297/.404 in 58 games for Double-A New Britain. Does have 10 homers but overall his production is weak. Poor strike zone judgment a major problem."

Snippets from the weekly International League report :

" ...  Third baseman Andy Marte tied a Bisons All-Time Record when he homered in five consecutive games  ... now has eight homers and 16 RBI in his last 11 games and has hit in 21 of his last 24 games (.333, 31-93)."

" ... Panamanian left-hander Davis Romero has been selected to represent the World squad in the All-Star Futures Game  ...began the season in Double-A New Hampshire where he went 6-5 with a 2.93 ERA striking out 70 opponents while issuing just 19 walks. For Syracuse Romero has made two starts and is 0-2 with a 5.73 ERA striking out seven and walking one."

" ... Since being promoted from Double-A Erie, RHP Humberto Sanchez, has been a big addition ... stands an imposing 6'6, 270 pounds, but it's his numbers that have proven to be the most impressive. Sanchez pitched well enough at the Double-A level posting a 5-3 record with a 1.76 ERA to warrant a promotion ... In making three starts with the Hens since the promotion, Humberto has continued to dominate the competition going 3-0 with a 0.47 ERA to go along with 17 strikeouts in 19.0 innings of work ... . He currently leads all of Minor League Baseball with 103 strikeouts between Erie and Toledo."

Micah Owings making such a positive impression in the D'backs front office :

" ...   He'll be in the big leagues by next week probably," Tucson outfielder Chris Young said, joking. After throwing six no-hit innings in his Triple-A debut at Portland last week, Owings (2-0) impressed again Wednesday night in a 5-1 win over Las Vegas. He allowed one run in 6 1/2 innings, giving up just two hits after the second inning ...  Combined with his outings at Double-A Tennessee, Owings is 8-2 with a 2.59 ERA ...  "He's an exceptional competitor," Tucson manager Chip Hale said. "I think his stuff is going to get better and better. The big question we have in our organization is, 'Is he a starter or is he a reliever?' ...   "When he hits, it's like having a DH in there," Hale said. Owings led Tulane in batting average (.355), home runs (18) and tied in RBIs (63), while going 12-4 with a 3.26 ERA to earn Conference USA player of the year in 2005."   (Tucson Citizen)

Best hitter in the minors to sit for awhile yet :

" ... Kevin Kouzmanoff was frustrated the first time he suffered a left hamstring strain that forced him to miss six games last month. When the same injury happened again last week as he rounded first base at Connecticut, he was flat-out angry. ``I've been so upset, I had a hard time sleeping last night,'' said Kouzmanoff, who leads all minor-league batters with a .428 average in 50 games. ``I've been going so well, this is the last thing I need again.'' ... ``We're looking at least another 10 days, maybe two weeks,'' Aeros manager Tim Bogar said. ``Being the second time with the same injury, we're going to take a little more precaution.''  (Akron Beacon Journal)

Reliever Juan Salas is the lone TB representative in the Futures Game.  Salas, now 27, is a converted third baseman.  His numbers are eye-popping.  AAA and AA combined :

Jeremy Sowers CLE looks to make his MLB debut Sunday :

" ...   Sowers (9-1, 1.39 ERA) earned the victory for the Bisons on Tuesday, giving up two runs and four hits in five innings. He struck out four ...  The Indians will make another move later this week to add Sowers to the roster ...  Sowers has had a near-perfect year at Buffalo. "I would caution people who think this guy is going to come in here and put the team on his back and carry us," Shapiro said. "He's a young pitcher. . . . There will be a learning curve." When asked what he expected from Sowers, Shapiro said, "I'd like to think he'd be an improvement upon the production we were getting from Jason Johnson."   (Cleveland Plain Dealer)

Howie Kendrick LAA under consideration for another tour with the Angels :

" ...  Manager Mike Scioscia said the Angels are looking at "some creative ways" to add offense, and among the in-house options being considered are the recall of triple-A infielder Howie Kendrick and outfielder Tommy Murphy. Kendrick, the Angels' top pure hitting prospect, is batting .396 in 51 games for Salt Lake, with nine home runs, 23 doubles and 48 runs batted in. He hit .115 in 10 games for the Angels from April 26-May 14 but didn't get enough regular playing time to find a groove."  (LA Times)

With the minor league season at about the half-way point, Dayn Perry, FOXSports.com, makes his picks as the best of the kids, position by position, beginning with the A+ players :

" ...  C — Jacob Fox [just promoted to AA] ... a decent prospect, but he's not a great one. He's back in the FSL this season and hitting like mad: .313 AVG/.383 OBP/.574 SLG. Fox leads the league in SLG, home runs and total bases, so the power numbers are certainly there. Going forward, he needs to improve his defense behind the plate and prove his mettle in the high minors."

" ... SS — Reid Brignac ...  has always had the tools, and this season the numbers are following. The Cal League is every bit a hitter's paradise, but that doesn't explain away these numbers: .327 AVG/.379 OBP/.551. When a 20-year-old shortstop ranks third in the Cal League in slugging, you should pay attention."

" ... OF — Brett Gardner  ...  Earlier this week, Gardner was promoted to AA-Trenton, but he's got a spot on our High-A All-Star Team. Prior to graduating to the high minors, Gardner had a batting line of .323 AVG/.433 OBP/.418 SLG with 30 steals and 43 walks. The power is minimal, but he hits for average, commands the strike zone and boasts phenomenal speed on the bases. If he keeps getting on base, he'll be a commodity."

A glutton for punishment?  Willing to contribute a half-hour a day to following prospects?  If interested, drop me a line    The short-season leagues kick off this week and we are looking for correspondents to check out the kids in the Appalachian, Northwest, Arizona, and Gulf Coast leagues.

A round of applause for Brian Carruthers, based in the Toronto area, who has kindly volunteered to handle the New York-Penn League.  Brian has been involved in fantasy sports since the early 60s! Currently he's in three Scoresheet leagues.  And, he still has time to maintain a senior position with a Canadian telecommunications giant. Included in his background is 25 years as an administrator in amateur baseball and hockey and 4 decades as an umpire.  Welcome aboard Brian !

We hope to be joined by Kelly Friesen (Pioneer League) later in the week.  And, we are pleased to offer a weekly report from our far north correspondent Matt Nemeth on the Alaska Summer League.

Homer Bailey, officially to AA  " ... Bailey will make his Double-A debut Thursday ... the Reds' No. 1 draft pick in 2003, went 3-5 with a 3.31 ERA in 13 starts for Single-A Sarasota. Those numbers don't sound overwhelming. But the Reds are pleased with his progress. "He's made a lot of improvement," said Grant Griesser, the Reds' assistant director of player development. "He's getting the plate quicker. The only thing that was lacking was consistency. But he's right on track." Bailey flirted with a no-hitter twice with Sarasota. When he was on, he was simply overpowering for Florida State League hitters. Bailey allowed only 49 hits in 702/3 innings. He struck out 79 and walked 22."  (Cincinnati Enquirer)

At RotoAmerica, it's Andy Marte atop the the Who's Hot list.

" ...  2. Anibal Sanchez ... Tossed a shutout on Monday night and may be the next to get the call despite just being in Double-A ...  3. Reid Brignac .... The latest shortstop to break out in the California League (see Wood, Brandon circa 2005). Brignac is batting a robust .323/.374/.550, but will need to improve his defense to take his game to the next level."

Some familiar names on the Who's Cold list :

" ... 2. Jarrod Saltalamacchia ... At some point you’d think he’s too talented to keep hitting in the .210 range, but signs of a breakout are non-existent ... 5. B.J. Upton ...Made two more errors on Sunday and now his AVG is in the .260s. Rumors have him moving to the outfield soon – what are they waiting for?"

The RotoTimes noting a couple of guys almost certain to go in supplemental drafts :

" ...  Eric Hurley ...  Overshadowed by the likes of John Danks, Thomas Diamond, and Edison Volquez, who are the consensus top pitching prospects in the Rangers organization, Hurley entered the season as a top sleeper candidate and someone with the potential to be better than any of the three aforementioned pitchers. To say the least, he has not disappointed. A first-round selection of the 2004 draft, Hurley is enjoying his best professional season by far at High-A Bakersfield. Through his first 13 starts, he has pitched 78 innings and tallied a 5-3 record, a 2.54 ERA and 80 strikeouts with a respectable 23 walks. A high-school draftee, Hurley is still just 20 years old."

" ... Micah Owings ...  a two-way star in both high school and college, and Arizona has decided to develop him as a pitcher. It has sure turned out well thus far for the third-round pick out of last year's draft. Owings excelled in his first taste of minor-league action last summer, going 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 22 innings at High-A Lancaster. The 23-year-old went straight to Double-A Tennessee to begin the 2006 season and continued to dominate opposing batters en route to a 6-2 record and a 2.91 ERA in 12 starts. Oh yeah, he can still hit too: Owens batted .271 (6-for-22) with two doubles, a homer, and seven RBI. While he did go 0-for-3 at the plate in his first start since being promoted to Triple-A Tucson, Owings also pitched six innings of no-hit ball to pick up his seventh win of the season."

John Franco, The Farm Report at SportsBlurb.com, checks out the kids :

" ...  Adam Lind ...  made a big splash in 2005, his first full season after being drafted by the Jays in the third round, by hitting .313-12-84 with 42 doubles in 495 at-bats at High-A Dunedin last year. This year, he has taken the difficult jump to Double-A in stride, ranking third in the Eastern League with a .317 average and matching last season’s total of 12 home runs in just 249 at-bats. Lind has also hit 17 doubles, and as his power continues to develop, he looks more and more like a future slugger for the Jays."

" ... Jason Hirsh ...  it’s important to explain just how bad he was in the beginning of the year, when he posted an ERA over 6.00 for the month of April. Hirsh is now 8-2 with a 2.79 ERA for the season, holding opponents to a .221 average and striking out 72 batters in 90.1 innings. "

Bryan Smith, The Baseball Analysts, reviews a few of his prospect picks and suggests he may have been a touch premature in anointing them as top prospects :

" ...  Jarrod Saltalamacchia ...  flew up prospect lists last season when he showed a good amount of hitting in one of the minors' most difficult hitters parks. Myrtle Beach is hellish on bats, and while AA Mississippi is no cake walk, we should have been seeing improvements upon 2005 numbers, not this giant step back. The word has continued to be that Jarrod has altered his focus to defense this season, but it would be unfortunate if this came at the expense of his bat. Brian McCann  ... seems to have made it in Atlanta, while Salty seems clueless in AA. He could turn things around with a good second half and a big 2007, but he didn't capitalize upon his opportunity to become a top ten prospect and push past McCann."

" ...  Thomas Diamond ...  numbers are not that bad this season. His prospect status is not in the toilet, his Major League hopes are still strong. But they aren't unchanged. After his dominant run through the Cal League in 2005, harder times were met in Frisco. The reason: increased walks, to the tune of a 4.96 BB/9, the highest of his career. Until now. After walking just 44 players in his first three stops, spanning nearly 130 innings, Diamond has 45 walks in 66.2 innings this season. His current 6.08 BB/9 matches the number he put up as a freshman at New Orleans. Diamond has continued to show good stuff, not allowing very many hits and still maintaining a good strike out rate. But with his pitcher's body, we used to project a future innings eater with ease. However, in a season where pitching prospects are graduating to the Majors at huge rates, Diamond has been unable to capitalize and become one of the better prospects left. Instead, he's made us wonder: are we looking at a future reliever?"

" ... Another third baseman expected to miss time is the Indians’ Kevin Kouzmanoff, who left last Thursday’s game at Norwich and was placed on the seven-day disabled list Friday with a left hamstring strain. Kouzmanoff, who still leads the minors in average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage, missed three games in late May because of the hamstring, and also missed six more in April when his back flared up ... "We're going to be extra cautious with him at this point given that it's his second hamstring injury in a relatively short period," Indians farm director John Farrell told the Akron Beacon-Journal."  (Baseball America)

" ... And, if SaraReds power-pitching right-hander Homer Bailey made his last appearance with the Class A-Advanced affiliate before moving up to the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Double A Southern League, it indeed was outstanding  ... The 20-year-old Bailey needed only to throw 12 pitches – 10 of which were strikes – in the top of the second inning for the West Division to get his three hitters to strike out swinging ... In his brief outing, Bailey’s fastball was consistently in the mid-90 miles per hour range ... has pitched well for the SaraReds during the first half ... deceiving record of 3-5 is followed by an improving earned run average of 3.31. In 13 starts, Bailey has walked 22 and struck out 79 and opposing hitters have a lowly .211 batting average against him."  (Sarasota Herald Tribune)

" ... The Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame two-sport star Jeff Samardzija agreed Sunday to final terms of a five-year contract with a signing bonus that could be worth as much as $7.25 million. Samardzija would have to give up his professional football aspirations and concentrate solely on reaching the major leagues as a right-handed pitcher for the bulk of the signing bonus to kick in ... deal still awaits the final approval of the Major League Baseball commissioner's office, which already rejected the first contract submitted for Samardzija this week ... Jeff left for Boise, Idaho, over the weekend to report to the Cubs short-season Class A team, the Boise Hawks."  (South Bend Tribune)

With all those hitters, ARZ gets an SP atop the Prospect Hot Sheet at Baseball America:

" ... 1. Micah Owings ...  welcomed himself into the Tucson clubhouse quickly, throwing six no-hit innings in his Triple-A debut. Arizona challenged the former two-way star by starting his season in Double-A, and the righthander has responded. In his last four starts, three before his promotion, Owings has allowed just one earned run and is riding a 25-inning scoreless streak."

" ... 9. Chris Iannetta ... We have been a little slow to react on this former Tar Heel, but he can longer be ignored. Is now hitting .441 with five homers in June and has 23 walks and 23 strikeouts on the season."

" ... 10. Jacob McGee ... While fellow uber-prospect Wade Davis has been struggling, McGee has kept on rolling. Has allowed just two earned runs over his last four starts with 26 strikeouts in 23 innings. His 98 strikeouts lead the Midwest League."

Geesh, the kid has quite a chip on his shoulder.  Delmon Young, back in the lineup after a 50 game suspension :

" ... instead of returning a tad more humble, Young returned to the Bulls with a surly demeanor. Repeatedly snapping at reporters and accusing the media of standing too close during an afternoon press conference, Young said he made a colossal mistake in hitting the official but added that the public doesn’t understand the pressures professional athletes are under. “I apologize to everyone out there for my actions back in April,” said Young ... Continuing, Young lumped himself in with a group of stars who receive heavy public scrutiny. “You guys have no clue what Barry Bonds is going through...you’ve got Shaq dealing with stuff just to win a championship. You’ve got coaches dealing with stuf
