April 9, 1913 - Ebbets Field
opened in Brooklyn and the Phillies defeated the Dodgers 1-0 before 10,000.
The stadium,
which cost $750,000 to build, was named after Charles Ebbets, the club's principal owner.
In 1947 with the Dodgers Jackie Robinson became the first black player
in the modern history of Major League baseball.

-- Sandy Amoros was one of the heroes as the Dodgers won their first World Series
title.
Amoros made a spectacular, game-saving catch, with two on and none out, in the 6th inning
of the 7th game. Brooklyn beat the Yankees 2-0 behind Johnny Podres, who pitched a
complete game 8-hitter. Gil Hodges drove in both the Dodger runs
