to SS must be made to complete the transaction.
4 -- Definitely no futures trades.

20-21 May 2005
We are deeply saddened by the loss of a teammate
and friend.
Shane Mills died during the night just hours after sitting in on a
regular gathering of the guys of Scorecard Harry's, one of the original Scoresheet
leagues. Shane was an inspiration in our baseball hobby and in life. It is
beyond me how he managed to maintain such enthusiasm and good spirits while in
such pain and fear of breaking something else. May he circle the bases
forever (a single to right, steals second, steals third, edges off third ...
breaks for home ... the throw ... SAFE!).
Al Tessmer, Shane's partner in Mantle, was with the
diminutive giant last night and sent out the sad news to Mantle colleagues :
" ... We had seen Shane Thursday evening and shared
a few beer and winks and sodas, and enjoyed talking and wheeling and dealing
with our Scorecard Harry's teams. We were all pleased to see Shane and he was in
bright spirits ... he had just purchased a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder and was
excited and wished to show us his new wheels ... he and Barry Fader were
discussing a trip to see a game ... Shane was very proud to be a member of the
Mantle League and enjoyed the camaraderie ... he was a good baseball man
who enjoyed scouring the minor leagues for the next great phenom. He was
an original owner in the Scorecard Harry's leagues since 1989 and always was
willing to help or give you the shirt off his back. Discussions of
amputation of his leg had taken place during the winter because of the many
fractures he has suffered because of his osteoporosis (at least 65 fractures and
popped his Achilles 4 or 5 times). He was an amazing fellow who
always kept a positive attitude despite the many health problems ... we will
miss Shane greatly and maybe we all can toast Shane tonight. He was a good
man, a fine Scoresheet owner and a great friend."
Mantle Divisions, Team Numbers for 2008
(Some of the team numbers do not directly match the reverse of the
draft order
because of the different way we assign teams to divisions.
Scoresheet takes the standings and assigns teams in an A-B-C-A-B-C-A-B-C
alignment. We "snake" the results. Thus, we take the draft order and
go A-B-C-C-B-A-A-B-C-C-B-A. But, as Scoresheet requires specific numbers
for each division, we just change the team numbers to make it work. It
means
there are six of our teams whose team numbers are slightly out of
whack.
If Scoresheet could just accept teams 1-6-7-12-13 & 18 in our Mills
Division, for example, we'd be fine. But they require teams 1-4-7-10-13
and 16. Ties broken by 1) head on head, then 2) run differential.

01
-- Prairie Dogs, Roger Morgan, Kincaid, SK.
Not only a high school math, physics and computer teacher, but the
town's mayor, track coach, and captain of the Senior Hockey team. Also,
appears to be the chief fundraiser for all the local teams (sign up for
Roger's various pools and help out the kids). Married with two
youngsters, a daughter and a son.. Very active Scoresheet manager,
chasing his first Mantle title. Also a key manager in the 20-team
SICO circuit.
02 -- FUBAR, Steve Lorch, St. Thomas, ON
03 -- RMT Taxsavers, Michael Rosenswig & Jon Dawe, Toronto.
Michael has a background in both law and accounting He's been in SS for
15 years, including stints as co-commissioner in a couple of leagues. An
Ex-Montrealer he is a senior partner in a medium size accounting firm.
Jon is a criminal lawyer (with, strangely enough, a background in
theoretical particle physics). He's a family man with a young daughter
and son. He also partners with Michael on a number of other SS team
04
-- Let's Play Two, Ken Warren, Delaware, ON.
2004 Mantle champ (from the wild-card slot). Had earlier ridden the arm
of Greg Maddux to three Mantle League titles. Former accountant at
Ontario Hydro. Has left the "working world" for work and play --
playing Bridge professionally and his own sports projections. Two-time
Canadian open pairs champion in bridge. Has played Scoresheet baseball
since 1989. (Also been in SS hockey and football.) Has
also captured titles in AL Gehrig, two in hockey and another in
football!
05 -- Tess Twinkies Two
Shane Mills & Al Tessmer. In May, 2005, we lost our
diminutive giant when Shane passed away after years of incredible
medical struggles. He was an inspiration to all. Our premier
division is now the Shane Mills Division. Shane's good friend Tess
carries on with the Twinkies. Tess, a lawyer in St. Catharines for more than two decades,
is a veteran player having competed in APBA, Strato and Scoresheet.
06
-- Ebbets Fielders-1, Jay-Dell Mah, Nakusp, BC.
Retired from the
CBC after 25 years as a reporter (Radio & TV) and manager. After
35 years in Toronto, moved in July 2001 to BC. Grandsons in
Oakville, Ont. Now trying to run five teams. Now you know why he's easily confused. Co-owner
(with Tim Tasker) of the first Mantle championship team in 1992. Mantle titles in 1996,1999,
2000, 2001 and 2003. Took 1999 expansion team in SICO to best overall record (100
wins), went to the finals in 2000 as a prelude to a 2001 league title.
In AL-Dowbiggin took a 94-win team (best) in 2003 to 60 wins in 2004
(worst) to a title in 2005 and back to last in his division in 2006. Compiler of various rookie reports,
often accused of
hoarding all the old guys.
07 --
Hit Parade II Denis Chabot, Quebec City,
PQ. The HIT PARADE (Team 4) may well be our most established team
(Denis' team has been going for nearly 20 years!). First, in the 70's, it was
Strat-O-Matic, then 10 years of
APBA, now a dozen years of Scoresheet. Still remembered in
Scoresheet as the manager who traded Randy Johnson for Glen Davis (of
course, there also was the Ebbets Fielders who took Davis with its 1st pick in the 1993 draft). The MANTLE LEAGUE is
Denis' favourite loop and he's re-tooling the HIT PARADE for a drive toward his 1st Scoresheet pennant. It's one of our more interesting teams -- lots of power and NO Expos
(yep, if one of his guys gets traded to Montreal get in a bid in a hurry
because he's going to dump those Expos in a heartbeat. While a fantasy baseball veteran,
he's still in his 40's, married since the mid-70's. Denis works in a data processing centre in
Quebec City. If you're in the area give him a call. He's looking forward to meeting Mantle
League managers. One of the league's most active traders.
08 --
Working Dogs,
Erwin Hunke, Edmonton,
AB. Erwin
is another Scoresheet veteran, having played since 1989 in NL Snider with
Gale Wetmore. Obsession grew, and at one time held 7 teams. Championship trophies include 5 in NL Snider, 2 NL Seaver, 1 AL
Palmer, and 1 each in combined leagues, AL SICO and AL MANTLE (strike
aided), over the Canadian legend, JDM. Lifetime winning percentage = 560.
Best regular season team in SICO in 2004, only to lose in the finals. Follows Cleveland philosophy, score runs, what
pitching
matters, too? Long-time Giant fan, grew up playing wiffle ball, Juan
Marichal and Willie McCovey versus Yankees. Now big Barry Bonds fan, see
NL Snider. Former shortstop and centre fielder, now turned to marathon
running, 13 to credit, including NYC, Prague and Madrid. A
CA, turned semi techie, now working for IBM. Recent travels to Spain,
Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Rep, Hungary, Australia, USA, and
Maritimes, trying to keep up with child bride and unearth prospects that
JDM has not yet heard about.
09 --
Hip Flexours, Tim D. Callan, Guelph, ON.
In his early 40's (still and barely), and proud to be an
original member of Mantle. Playing the winter game most years. Have yet
to win a crown, but keep plugging away. Program Director of a facility
for youth in conflict with the law; challenging work that I've been
enjoying for nearly 20 years. Long time Blue Jay fan, I live in Guelph,
Ontario with my girlfriend and her 2 young boys (sadly, 1 is a Red Sox
fan, but, at least he's a fan); have visited Cooperstown (highly
recommended), the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame (in beautiful St.
Mary's) and have been to Spring training in Florida (also highly
recommended)...and after near yearly name changes, have finally settled
on a permanent team name - Hip Flexours.
10
-- Screwups, Tim Tasker, Toronto, ON.
After 20 years as a TV cameraman, Tim was the Assignment Editor for the
CBC's local TV news unit in Toronto before moving on to a producer's
spot in the National Newsroom. A SS manager since 1991. Co-owner
of the winning Mantle team in the league's inaugural season. Took over
Mantle Team-6 in 1995. Mantle finalist in 1998, four-time champ in AL
Gaedel. Loves fishing - catches little! He's the guy who hesitated
when offered Randy Johnson for his Neifi Perez ! Annual summer
project -- tearing down and rebuilding the backyard pool.
11 -- Savage Nobles, Gale Wetmore,
Arlington, MA. Gale is another of the Scoresheet veterans,
having played since 1989 (which I believe was the second year of SS in
Canada) -- baseball only. There are several championship trophies on
the mantle including one for the inaugural year of NL Snider, a perpetual
league started in 1990. Also with a team in Kinsella, a 24 team, combined league. Gale took over the Hellions for the 1997 season (remember his
first pick? -- shhhhh, Willie Adams). Managed the Hellions to the
Mantle finals in 2001. The Yankee-hater from the
cradle grew up with Hank Aaron and Warren Spahn as his favourite
players. A Brave fan since Milwaukee. Was a varsity pitcher and
first baseman in high school, and has played and umpired softball as an
adult (including a fast pitch league in the Yukon and NWT!). A massage therapist when he's not
studying his lineup. Dual citizen of the USA and Canada, moved north of
the border in 1975, back to the US in 1993 (to allow Diana to pursue a
career in biotechnology. Has hopes to return to Canada to
stay. Still visits often for fishing, hiking and visiting family.

12
-- Looney Bin, Rick Haviland (Looney), Simcoe, Ontario.
Rick, partner with Ken Warren on three teams and with three others on
his own, joins Mantle for the 2008 season. He's the part owner of
Modern Auto parts, a late model auto recycling business. Married
with two grown children. First played Scoresheet in 1990 and
selected Ken Griffey Jr. with his first ever pick. Has had a 121
win season (the 24-team Kinsella League) and has seven Scoresheet
trophies.
13 --
B Ball Deluxe, Danny/John Laflamme, Nanticoke,
ON. Dan is a systems analyst with Burlington Hydro. The
good-looking ones in the family are wife Sandy and the kids!
Gets a kick researching baseball on
the net where, he says, he has developed an unparalleled knack for getting
"duped" by rookie hype! Spends much time with kids coaching baseball.
Division title in Mantle in 2001 (just a game back in 2002) and a charge
right to the finals in 2002 and 2004.

14 -- Rolling Thunder, Jim McCullough,
Mississauga, ON. Married over 20 years with 2 tuitions on the go, with 2
golden retrievers named Keon and Bailey. Started playing Scoresheet in
92, after 5 years of Rotisserie Ball. Also plays Scoresheet Hockey, and
has two trophies there. No trophies yet in Baseball, but believes his
luck has to change sometime (has finished first 5 times, second
numerous). Plays in AL Winfield and AL Brett, also NHL Bauer. Favourite
teams, 1967 Cardinals, 1975 Reds, and the 72 A's. Jim has being coaching
Girl's Softball as a way to hone his managerial talents, with trophies,
but the girls seemed to listen better than my fantasy teams. He works in
the Insurance industry, managing a technical side of business and has
worked in this area for 27 years. My goal is to beat Al Tessmer whenever
possible, and to win a trophy as well.
15 -- Ponts Pilots,
Frank Whipple/Bill Slowka, (Frank) St. John, NB. Now retired from a life of "everything from dishwasher to newspaper
editor to caddy in Florida". Included was a stint in the military where, among other
things, he coached his Canadian team in Korea. A Little League coach in the
Maritimes, Matt Stairs was one of his youngsters. Frank is a Mantle original. Wonder why
so many rookies go so high in the draft? Frank set the standard in the first two
drafts -- taking guys like Ryan Klesko and Chipper Jones in 1992 and Carlos Delgado in
1993. Loves hitters -- Ponts Pilots hold the league record for homers and slugging
percentage. Perennial power in both the regular and Old-Timers leagues. Long time
Giant fan (from the days at the Polo Grounds). Now back in St. John,
NB the ol' stomping grounds.
16 -- Imperial Warriors, Hiro
Yamashiro. A physician in the Toronto area and a Scoresheet
veteran (starting in 1991). Member of AL Kinsella, AL Hannam, AL McGhee
and NL Banks. Likes a challenge, including rebuilding projects.
Loves to chase the day's hot prospects. Has some trophies on his
shelf, but like the Jays, none since the late 90s.
17 -- Acton Leather Kings, Murray Cockburn,
Kingston,
ON. Retired CFO and director of Torstar Corporation (Toronto Star).
Olympic runner for Canada in Melbourne Olympics 1956 in the 400 metres
and 1600 metre relay (finished 5th) and ran for Univ of Southern
California 1954-58. Baseball nut since 1946, favouring the Red Sox since
then. Yankee hater but don't mind having them on my teams (now 5 with
teams in AL B&R, NL C&R and NL Carleton, all with Rosenswig, and AL
Bratpack (we have salaries to add interest). Think I have about 5
scoresheet trophies, back to mid-90s) but currently rebuilding,
struggling and building.
18 -- Touch em all Joe,
Dennis Pepper, Shakespeare,
ON. Moved into the "veteran" category in 2004 (after celebrating his
50th birthday!). Ontario Sales Manager for Cardinal Couriers.
Surrounded by household of females - wife Kathryn (married 22 years),
teenage daughters Andrea & Ashley & female dog & cat. Active sports
participant in younger years & coach baseball & hockey locally. In
Scoresheet since 1989. Charter member 1990 of baseball AL Devereaux (4
trophies), charter member 1992 of NHL Sooter (11 trophies). Mantle
member since 1995 (best season 1996 - division winner - lost to Jay in
final). Also, recently joined perpetual leagues NFL 1995, NBA P-104
(combined US/Can basketball league) & last year took over team in AL
Brett (rebuilding to do).
