Game Reports Western Canada League 1910

(May 4)  The Moose Jaw paper gave the season opener quite the coverage. This is the opening of the story.

With a flourish of triumphs, literally and figuratively, the base ball season opened amidst a blaze of enthusiasm yesterday.  All this enthusiasm was justified. Fans had been assured that the class of ball to be played this year would be much better than last, and that the team this year would be a real winner. But who would not be enthusiastic on the opening of the season. Even the heart of the city born kid is warmed when he thinks of that first game to be played on the nearest vacant lot and the fans in Moose Jaw who are given the opportunity of seeing such a class of ball as played yesterday would be very much lacking in vim and enthusiasm if they did not appreciate the sport and show their appreciation in the manner which counts.

An automobile parade led by the 16th Light Horse Band gave to the occasion a gala touch. As the various vehicles wound their way through the streets to the strains of martial music it seemed that Moose Jaw was en fete. The interest and support given by all sections and classes of the community were fitting tributes to en enterprise of the directors and executive of the Moose Jaw Baseball club

In the game itself, the Robin Hoods took a first inning lead on William Hurley's two-run homer and went on to a 4-2 win over Brandon.  Gilchrist held the visitors to eight hits in going the distance for the win.  Henry Hinrichs gave up nine hits in taking the loss.  Hurley also had a double and a stolen base.  Albert Rodosy led the Angels with three hits.

(May 11)  Henry Hinrichs of Brandon fired a no-hitter as the Angels topped Winnipeg 3-0 in the team's home opener. After a parade through the city's main streets, headed by the Wheat City band, Mayor Adolph made a welcoming address and former mayor Robert Hall threw out the first ball. Then, Hinrichs took over and made quick work of the visitors as the left-hander had a perfect game until the 9th when he gave up a free pass to Maroons shortstop William O'Brien. The California product compiled sevens strikeouts.  Right fielder William Schultz provided the only run Brandon would need with a a homer. Carter Wilson pitched well for Winnipeg, yielding just seven hits.

(June 16)  Brandon's Henry Hinrichs fired his second no-hitter of the season and his second shutout against Edmonton in pitching Brandon to a 2-0 victory over Eskimos in the Manitoba city.  Hinrichs had blanked the Eskimos 6-0 13 days ago. The Angels' southpaw gave up five walks and fanned eight in registering his 9th win and third shutout of the season. With just six weeks played, Hinrichs has already appeared in 14 games and in addition to the three whitewash efforts, has allowed just a single run in four other contests.  Angels broke a scoreless tie in the 7th as Albert Rodosy banged a two-bagger and came home on McDonald's single. Brandon added another in the 8th when Clarence Sullivan singled, advanced to third on John Cooper's safety and then stole home. Jack Grady took the loss surrendering nine hits, three by Sullivan.

(July 26)   Moose Jaw's Ray Brown held Calgary to four hits Tuesday as the Robin Hoods notched a 4-0 shutout victory. The game was marred by a serious injury to Moose Jaw's speedy left fielder Charles Irby who broke his leg just above the ankle in sliding into second base with his second steal of the game. His spikes caught in the hard ground.  Umpire Ferguson and the players were so affected they could not resume the game. It was called with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
