VANCOUVER SENIOR LEAGUE

Pat Thomas, the third sacker for the Athletics, captured the batting championship in the Vancouver Senior League in spite of a mid-season attack of appendicitis.  Thomas, who did not return after a hospital stay two months ago, finished the season with a .382 average, 15 points better than runner-up George Smith of Arnold & Quigley. McGinnis of Arnold & Quigley was third with a .343 mark and Ross Edy of United Distillers took fourth place, hitting .340 a few points ahead of teammate Billy Adshead. Frank Plouf of the Athletics led in runs scored, with 45. Don Stewart of the Distillers clouted eight homers to lead the circuit and Edy topped the bases thieves with 13. Eddie Holden of the Clothiers was tops in total bases with 88
