(April 27) Ken Samis, manager of the Edmonton Dodgers,
announced the signing of three players - pitcher Eric Wigeland,
shortstop Don Bailey and second baseman Mike
McInerney. Wigeland and Bailey are up from junior ranks, McInerney
is from Vancouver.
(May 17) Edmonton Eskimos completed their
roster with the signing of first baseman Jack McGill and second sacker
Ray Enjaian of San Francisco.
(May 16) Gene Wulf was the local hero
as he pitched 16 innings and belted a game-winning homer as Calgary Purity
99'ers beat Calgary Buffaloes 5-4 before 1,500 fans in the opening game of
the Big Four Inter-City Baseball League.
(June 13) A three-run homer by Joe Kreski
in the 8th inning gave Calgary Buffaloes a 7-4 win over Purity. The
game featured the introduction of seven new players, all from the University
of Arizona. The Buffs debuted third baseman Clarke Duncan,
centre fielder Lloyd Jennery, right fielder Jim
Starkey and catcher Jerry Dodson. Jenney copped
All-American honours. Purity 99 had shortstop Claude Wheeler,
second baseman Chet Vasey and outfielder Bernie
Weinstein. Vasey also claimed All-American status.
Dude Baldwin pitched a seven-hitter for the
win. The contest featured three homers, Duncan for the Buffaloes and Glen
Gorbous for Purity added the others.

(June 16) Edmonton Eskimos whipped Edmonton
Dodgers 13-5 to inch to within 2 1/2 games of the league leaders.
(June 27) Playing manager Jim Ryan
drove in a pair with a first inning double to lead Edmonton Dodgers back
into first place with a 9-4 win over Edmonton Eskimos. Ryan's sharp
single in the third led off a four-run outburst.
(July 12) Edmonton Eskimos rallied
for three runs in the last of the 9th inning to shaded Edmonton Dodgers 5-4
in a Big Four game before 2,000 fans.
Calgary Buffaloes pounded Purity 99s for 13 hits and a 13-5 victory to move
the Buffs out of the cellar in the Big Four Baseball League.
(July 16) Jerry Seaman fired a
no-hitter for the Edmonton Eskimos in Big Four action but failed to come
away with a victory. Eskimos made four errors in the field and dropped
a 1-0 decision to Calgary Purity in the opening game of a double-header.
Calgary took the second game 2-1. Neil Kelly
scored the only run in the first game. He reached first on an infield
error then came around to score on a dropped fly in the outfield combined
with a bad throw to home. Ron Kirby, who gave up five
hits, notched the win over Seaman. Eskimos had taken both ends of Saturday's
twinbill 8-0 and 7-1.

(July 18) Jim Ryan's Edmonton Dodgers moved
to within a half-game of the league-leading Eskimos with a 12-7 verdict over
the Esks.
(July 19) Edmonton Eskimos exploded for nine
runs in the 7th inning and a 13-3 victory over Edmonton Dodgers. The
loss dropped Jim Ryan's Dodgers 1 1/2 games off the pace.
(July 28) Edmonton Dodgers downed Purity 99 9-4.
(July 28) Glen Gorbous, the Purity
slugger, is the batting leader in the Big Four Baseball League. The
latest statistics were released today by league president W.R. Irwin
of Calgary. The former third baseman, who now holds down the centre
field spot for the 99'ers, tops the circuit with a .386 mark, a point ahead
of Jim Ryan of the Dodgers. Jerry Seaman of the
Eskimos is third at .380, ahead of teammate Bob Lillis, .379.
Chet Vasey of the Buffaloes, at .337, was 5th. Gorbous
also tops the loop in homers, with 9, and doubles, with 15. Eskimos'
Cliff Johnson leads in runs batted in, with 52.
(July 29) Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary
Buffaloes split a twin-bill at Edmonton. In the opener, Vince
Pesky's Buffs built up
an early lead then held off a 9th inning rally by the Esks to win 7-6.
Dude Baldwin scattered 11 hits to register the win. In the
second game, Edmonton scored four in the first inning on four walks and a
pair of hits to take a lead they never relinquished in winning 10-6.
Eddie Morris had two hits and drove in three to pace the Eskimos.
Lefty Belter fired a four-hitter for the win. Chet Vasey
had a homer for Calgary. Joe Murphy, who walked seven of the 13
men he faced, took the loss.

(July 30) Lloyd Jenney belted a homer
in each game to lead Calgary Buffaloes to a sweep of a doubleheader with
Edmonton Eskimos, 7-6 and 6-1. In the opener, Jenney's 7th inning
blast brought the Buffaloes into a 5-5 tie. A single by Art Worth,
combined with two Edmonton errors, allowed two more runs. Eskimos
rallied for one run in the bottom of the 7th as Bob Lillis
drove in Jack McGill who who tripled. In the second
game, Jenney smashed a three-run homer in the 3rd frame to salt away the
win. Chet Vasey contributed a two-run shot in the 7th.
Gordon McQuarrie, sent the to the showers in the 1st inning of
the first game, bounced back with a three-hitter to take the nightcap.

(July 30) In a triple-header at Calgary
Edmonton Dodgers took two of three from Purity 99. The Calgary club
won the Sunday afternoon encounter 14-4 as Neil Kelly had three hits
and five others had a pair for the 99'ers. Gene Wulf pitched
into the 7th inning to register the win.

In the first of the night games, Doug Darrah fired
a five-hitter to lead the Dodgers to a 7-3 victory. Don
Anderson drove in three runs for the winners with a double and single.
Paul Peterson, who allowed just four hits in taking the loss,
hurt his cause by issuing 11 bases on balls.

Vern Callihan held Purity to just three
hits in the final contest as Edmonton took a 5-3 triumph. Purity took
a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Richie Carlisle walked,
Glen Gorbous doubled and Ernie Beland connected for
a homer. Callihan then settled down and allowed just one hit the rest
of the way. Dodgers jumped into the lead in the 3rd with a three-run rally
as Mike McInerey reached on a walk, Jim Ryan and
Don Anderson singled and Barry Robertshaw had a
three-bagger.

(August 4) Edmonton Dodgers topped Calgary
Buffaloes 13-7 in a game in which each side committed five errors.
(August 6) Edmonton Dodgers swept a
triple-header from Calgary Buffaloes Sunday.
(August 8) Edmonton Eskimos downed Edmonton
Dodgers 16-10 to increase their league lead to two games.
(August 18) The league-leading Edmonton Eskimos swamped the
tail-end Calgary Purity 99's 14-1 in a Big Four Baseball League game at
Edmonton. Lefty Belter fired a three-hitter for the win as the
Esks pounded out 16 hits to clinch first place in the league standings.
Hours later, fire broke out in the wood grandstand at Renfrew Park and
destroyed the structure along with the team dressing rooms. One of the
park's light standards had also been damaged. The loss was estimated
at close to $40,000, including equipment valued at a minimum of $5,000.
The grandstand seated 1,200 spectators. The Saturday game was
cancelled, but crews worked furiously to clear the debris for a Sunday
double-header.
(August 18) Calgary Buffaloes took a pair from Edmonton Dodgers.
(August 19) Edmonton Dodgers scored a pair in the top of the 9th
to down Calgary Buffaloes 12-10. Des O'Connor and Don
Stewart each had three hits to lead the Edmonton attack. Vern
Callihan was the winner in a relief role. Bernie
Anderson of the Dodgers and Bill Gadsby of the Buffs had
homers.

(August 20) Calgary Buffaloes swept a twin-bill from Edmonton
Dodgers 11-5 and 5-3. Jerry Dodson paced the Buffs to
the first game win with four hits and five runs batted in. Dick
Corrigan allowed just five hits and survived 11 walks to capture the
win.

Dude Baldwin held the Dodgers to seven hits in the second game
as the Buffs notched a 5-3 victory. Calgary had just six hits but took
advance of nine bases on balls from losing pitcher Eric Wigeland.
Des O'Conner had two hits for the Dodgers in each game to
follow up a three-hit game Saturday.

(August 20) With the ruins of the grandstand in the background,
the Edmonton Eskimos wrapped up the regular season with twin triumphs over
Purity 99s. Bob Peterson fired a four-hitter in the opener as
Esks won 3-1 and Jack Devine handled the second game as Edmonton won
4-2.

(August 22) Calgary Buffaloes clobbered Edmonton Dodgers 17-1 in
the opening game of the Big Four semi-final. The Buffs, who finished
third at the end of the regular season, clouted 16 hits from three Edmonton
hurlers.
(August 23) In another big offensive outburst Edmonton Dodgers
clobbered Calgary Buffaloes 20-12 to deadlock their best of seven semi-final
at a game apiece. Buffs won the series opener 17-1.

(August 29) Edmonton Dodgers downed Calgary Buffaloes 7-5 to
capture the best of seven semi-final in six games. Dodgers scored
early, notching four in the first inning highlighted by doubles from Doug
and Don Stewart and a single by Des O'Connor and
helped by two walks, a fielders' choice and an error. Calgary rallied
for three runs in the 9th as Chet Vasey and Lloyd
Jenney drove in markers and another scored on a wild pitch.

(August 31) Edmonton Dodgers won the opening game of the Big Four
final series downing Edmonton Eskimos 15-4. Bernie Anderson led
the Dodgers' attack driving in six runs with two homers, a double and
single. Barry Robertshaw also had a homer. Al
Purvis, a surprise starter for the Dodgers, allowed 12 hits but went
the distance for the win.

(September 1) Edmonton Eskimos took advantage of Edmonton Dodger
errors to notch a 7-4 victory in the second game of the best of seven
series.
(September 7) Edmonton Dodgers whipped the Edmonton Eskimos 12-6
to capture the Big Four Inter-City Baseball League title. Dodgers, who
finished second to the Eskimos during the regular season, won the best of
seven series four games to one. Eddie Kapp tossed an eight-hitter for
the win. Eight Eskimo errors made it easy for the Dodgers. Esks'
Bob Lillis, the league's top hitter, had the only homer.
Dodgers put the game away early with four runs in each of the first two
innings. In the first frame, Eskimo starter Lefty Belter
gave up a scratch hit, three walks while his maters committed two errors.

Carmangay thumped Vulcan 14-6 to take top money in the Champion Lions'
Club Tournament. Vulcan had downed Stavely 7-1 in their opener and
reachedf the final with a 5-2 victory over Lomond. Ben Dann hurled
both contests for Vulcan.
