win. Rolly Merrill went the distance for the Royals allowing just six
hits.
Mickey Rocco, released by Minot, handled
first base for the Royals and Bill Washburn, a pitcher dropped by the
Mallards, was in uniform but didn't play. Bill Spaeter, an infielder,
joined the Royals on Tuesday. The club released four players --
pitchers Chuck Gowett and Mike Williams, outfielder

outfielder Pete Hughes handed Carman a pair of extra base
hits when, blinded by the sun, he allowed fly balls to drop in for
safeties. Hughes added to his miserable day by getting picked off
first by catcher Almer McKerlie, who had just entered the
game when regular backstop Bob Turner left the game when
notified that his wife had given birth to a baby girl.

Knuckleballer Pee Wee Jenkins won his fourth straight game for the
Greys. Gordie Howe,
of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League, drove in two runs
for the Gems. Howe, under orders from the Red Wings not to play
baseball, was in action at first base for the injured Jim Ryan. The victory boosted Brandon's lead
over second-place Carman to a game and a half in the ManDak league
standings.

win over the Royals in an interlocking game in Winnipeg. After Tate's
blast, the Beavers scored two insurance runs on three singles and an
error. Murray Richardson turned in a superb relief
effort for the Beavers, coming on in the 2nd inning and holding the Royals
to three hits the rest of the way. Tate also had a double,
single and a stolen base. Roy Dean knocked in two runs

advantage of shoddy fielding by Moose Jaw to score seven runs in

the win. Highlight of the game was a tremendous three-run homer by the
Maples' Rip Robinett. His 5th inning blast went over the
centre field fence, some 450 feet from home plate.

to begin their comeback. Mickey Rocco's three-run double was the key hit in
the inning. Winnipeg tallied a pair in the bottom of the 9th to tie on
back-to-back-to-back doubles by Bob Rittenberg, Bill Cleveland and
Strader.

the other side Wednesday night. Two weeks after demolishing Saskatoon
12-5 and 24-7 in a double-header, the Caps were the victims of a
record-setting offensive by the Minot Mallards. Mallards rapped out 29 hits
in crushing the Caps 22-3 before 13-hundred fans at Minot. The
outburst topped the 24 hits by Winnipeg Buffaloes in a 22-8 win over Brandon
in 1950. Every Mallard had at least one hit and one run. Duke
Bowman led the offensive with five hits, a triple, double and three
singles, scored four times and drove in four runs. Dean Scarborough
had five singles and Zoonie McLean knocked in five runs with a
triple and three singles. Mallards did all their scoring in the first
six innings. Roy Williams accounted for all the Regina scoring
with a bases-loaded triple. Sugar Cain pitched a
six-hitter, with eleven strikeouts, for the win.

who rejoined the Greys after a brief appearance with the Winnipeg Royals,
had three hits for Brandon including a leadoff homer in the 1st

and held off a late Minot rally to edge the Mallards 6-5. Mickey

Chapman didn't
get an out before being replaced in the 1st inning. He threw fourteen
consecutive balls before throwing a strike and when he did Rocco hit it for
a run-scoring single.

On Sonny Andrews Night in Carman, newcomer Felix
Pine made a
good first impression pitching the Carman Cardinals to a 9-4 win over
Minot. Bob Turner slugged a three-run homer for the Cards and Curly
Williams blasted his third homer in three nights. 1,200 fans
turned out to salute Andrews, into his 5th season with the club and the only
original member still with the club. Fans chipped in $150 and the team
another $50 to show their appreciation. He also received a club bag.

Scarborough had three hits for the Mallards. Walt McCoy

Rolly Merrill held Minot Mallards to six hits in the Royals 6-3
victory. Pete Hughes slugged a two-run homer in the 5th inning, his

Mallards. Dee Moore and Bill Spaeter each had two hits
for the Royals.

Ed Albosta resigned as
manager of the Minot Mallards. The action followed Albosta's failure
to win a vote of confidence from the players.

17) Going into Monday's action, Minot Mallards had lost five in a row
while the Winnipeg Royals had won six straight. Minot turned the
tables at home pounding out 22 hits to blast Winnipeg 18-1. Royals
added to their misery by making eight errors. Mallards erupted for ten
runs in the first frame and coasted the rest of the way. Othello
Renfroe and Don Corcoran each had a triple and two singles
for the Mallards. Zoonie McLean chipped in with two
doubles and a single while Joe Massaro and Duke
Bowman each had three singles. Pete Hughes accounted
for the Winnipeg scoring with his 11th home run, one back of teammate
Mickey Rocco, who holds the league record of 12. Warren
Martin fired a five-hitter for the win.

and Ed Bowman led the Mallards' attack, each with three

won their 6th straight game to move into a tie for first place in the ManDak
League standings. The Mallards' 7-4 win over Winnipeg forced a playoff
to determine the top spot. Although tagged for eleven hits, Warren
Martin went the distance for the win. Mallards' Duke Bowman
extended his hitting streak to sixteen games with a pair of singles. Bill
Spaeter had two doubles for the Royals.

least a tie for third place in the league standings with a 9-5 win over the
slumping Carman Cardinals. . Bill Cleveland paced the Royals with a homer,

the Cardinals.

tossed a three-hit shutout as Minot thumped Brandon 8-0 in the first game of
a best-of-three playoff to determine first place in the ManDak League
standings. Mallards and Greys were deadlocked at the end of the
regular, 74-game, schedule. Lettau didn't allow a runner past first
base. He fanned five and allowed two walks. Joe Massaro
lead the Mallards' attack with four hits. Chuck Carroll
had three.

(August 29) Minot erupted for seven
runs in the 8th inning to defeat Brandon 9-4 to capture first place in the
ManDak standings. Mallards won the best-of-three playoff in two
straight games. Connie Juelke's three-run homer, his
12th of the season, was the key blow for the winners. Duke Bowman
rapped out three hits. Brandon's starter, Lefty McKinnis,
and manager Willie Wells were ejected in the 1st inning.
After protesting a call on batter Warren Martin, McKinnis responded by firing the ball over the grandstand. After being ejected, McKinnis had to be restrained by a half-dozen of this teammates.

Longest in the bottom of the 9th scored Benny Lott and
gave Carman an 8-7 win over Winnipeg. It was Longest's fourth hit of
the game. The victory kept the Cardinals' hopes alive for a tie for
the third spot. Lyman Bostock also had four safeties for
the Cards. Rafe Cabrera had three hits, including a
triple, for the Royals.

playoff to decide third place when they came from behind a 4-0 deficit to
edge Winnipeg 8-7 in the final game of the regular schedule. Curly
Williams had a key hit for the Cards, a 2nd inning homer. It was his
12th of the season. Pete Hughes blasted his 13th homer
for the Royals to establish a ManDak League record. Walt McCoy
was the winner in relief.

King’s line drive in the 9th inning. Larry Dempsey

13) Before the largest-ever crowd to witness a game at
Minot's Municipal Ballpark, the Mallards shaded Brandon 6-4 to even the
ManDak League final at two games apiece. The crowd of 3.700
overflowed the bleachers as fans sat on the grass along both outfield
lines. Othello Renfore's 7th inning blast with one
aboard was the highlight of the Mallards' attack and put Minot in the
lead to stay. Ed Bowman also belted a home run, his
first as a Mallard. Sugar Cain went the distance for
his third playoff victory. Cain also helped at the plate with a
pair of doubles.

14) In a wild 5th game, Minot was awarded a forfeit victory
after Brandon refused to take the field for the bottom of the 12th
inning.
With
the game tied 3-3 in the top of the 12th frame, Brandon had the bases
loaded with one out and Cowan Hyde at the plate.
Hyde hit a double-play grounder. When first base umpire Ookie
Hammond signaled Cowan out at first it provoked a rhubarb as the
Greys argued and attacked Hammond. Tom Parker and John
Washington were ejected. Washington was suspended for the
rest of the series (he was reported to have been arrested). When
the Greys didn't come out for the bottom of the inning, the contest was
awarded to the Mallards.

Mallards to the ManDak League championship. Dempsey was masterful
on the hill and belted a triple, double and single as the Mallards
