settled before the hometown Barons had a 7-run lead on their way to a

May 29 - Minot Mallards escaped with a 5-0 win
over Bismarck after the Barons had scored five in the 9th to tie as rain
forced the game to be called and the score to revert to the end of the
8th inning. Bob Van Eman and Zoonie McLean had
two-run homers for the Mallards. Dirk Gibbons held the
Barons to six hits to get the win. Vic Stryska also allowed

June 01 - Bismarck announced it had traded outfielder
Bill Jankowski to Dickinson, released lefty John Jensen,
former American Leagion star from Massachusetts, and signed southpaw

June 01 - Tex Dargie continued his hitting
streak with four hits, a triple and three singles, as Bismarck dumped
Dickinson 12-6. Playing manager Al Cihocki also had
four safeties, including two doubles and Al Leap, Bill

June 10 - Bismarck took a pair from Williston 3-2 and
5-3. In the opener, Tony Garcia gave up two solo homers, to
Jim Leavitt and Nelson Daehn, but that was all the
Oilers' scoring as the Barons prevailed 3-2. In the second game,
the Barons handed Preston Elkins his first loss in two
seasons. Elkins, 7-0 last season, had won his first three
decisions this summer. Barons scored three in the first inning and
went on to a 5-3 triumph. Roy Weatherly led the offense
with three hits, including a two-run homer.

acquisition of pitcher Vernon "Pete" Taylor who had been with Little
Rock of the Southern Association.

and drove in four runs to lead Williston to a 9-6 margin over Bismarck.
Weatherly had a homer and single, was hit by a pitch and twice reached
base safely on errors. Preston Elkins pitched into
the 8th inning for his fifth win of the season and helped at the plate
with a homer. Bill Raehse also homered for the
Oilers while John Kropf, Sam Hill and Al
Leap belted round trippers for the Barons.

the bottom of the 9th inning gave Bismarck an 8-6 win over Williston.
The Oilers had taken a 6-4 lead with two runs in the top of the 9th.
In bottom of the 9th, Roger Higgins led off with his first homer
of the season. With two out and John Kropf aboard on
a single and Sam Hill on a base on balls, Pennington
belted Norm Johnson's first pitch high over the right
centre field wall. Pennington earlier had two singles and two
walks. Higgins went the distance to record his 4th win of the season.

runs in the 7th inning to post an 11-0 win over Bismarck. Pete
Taylor tossed a six-hitter for the shutout, and had three hits,

sent 17 batters to the plate in the inning, pounding out 11 hits.
Don Corcoran had a triple and a bunt single in the inning,
scoring twice and driving in a pair. Zoonie McLean had three

July 8 - Bismarck roared from behind to score eight runs in the eighth
inning and trounce Williston 10-4. John Kropf had given the
Barons a 2-1 lead with a homer in the sixth inning but Preston
Elkins' three-run homer in the top of the 8th gave the Oilers a 4-2
margin. In the bottom of the frame, Sam Hill's
two-run double knotted the score and the Barons got a two-run double
from Al Cihocki and a two-run triple from Tex
Dargie. Mike Perez' sacrifice fly and a single

July 31 - Helped by six Edmonton errors, Bismarck
Barons topped the Eskimos 6-5 in 11 innings at Bismarck. Dale Ziegler
was the hard-luck loser having held the Barons to six hits while fanning
14. Catcher Tom Shollin had three hits, including a homer
and double, for Edmonton.

July 31 - Williston Oilers overcame a 6-0 deficit to
down Dickinson 8-7 in 10 innings. Four straight singles in the
10th, capped by Jim Leavitt's drive off the scoreboard, provided
the winning margin. Oilers got back in the game with three in the
sixth inning then got a two-run homer by Nelson Daehn and a solo
blast by Preston Elkins to tie in the bottom of the ninth.
An error allowed the Packers score in the top of the 10th setting the
stage for the Oilers rally in the bottom of the extra frame.

shutout as Dickinson edged Edmonton 1-0. Gerald Didier's
fifth inning single drove in Ev Johnson with the only run of the
game. Johnson had singled and moved to third on an error.

August 01 - Sam Hill's three-run homer
in the 9th gave Bismarck a 6-3 win over the Mallards in Minot. It
was the Barons 4th straight triumph. Mal Landry went eight

August 01 - Preston Elkins crushed three home
runs and drove in six as Willistion Oilers trampled the Lloydminster
Meridians 22-3. Jim Leavitt and Dolph Regelsky also

team has acquired third baseman Carl Paylor, outfielder Nino
Spatafore and pitchers Don Herman and Al

August 2 - Butch Lawing drove in the winning
run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Dickinson a 5-4 victory
over Minot. Lawing had earlier clubbed his 17th home run. Ev

tie a Mandak League record as Williston topped Bismarck 6-5 to halt the

August 3 - Minot at Dickinson, rained out. The
Mallards announced the acquisition of Dean Scarborough to replace
Bob Van Eman. Scarborough has been with Huron. He was
the batting champion in the South Minnesota League for three seasons,
1950-51 and 1953.
August 3 - Jack Sanoff hurled a four-hitter
and his Williston teammates collected 15 hits to trounce Bismarck 8-1.

August 5 - Minot and Williston split a twin-bill at
Minot. Al Lyons pitched a three-hit, 10-inning shutout as

August 7 - Edmonton Eskimos upset Bismarck
Barons 7-6. Carl Maggio had three hits and knocked in three to
pace the Esks 15-hit attack. Ralph Vold, who went the
distance for the win, score two runs, including the winner in the bottom
of the 8th. Bill Hockenbury, who started at third base and
relieved starter Tony Garcia, had four hits.

Minot Mallards beat the Meridians 5-1 at Lloydminster. Mallards had only

August 12 - Williston Oilers swept a twin-bill from
Minot 1-0 and 5-4. In the first game, Al Lyons fired a

August 17 - A big fifth inning carried Dickinson to a
10-8 win over Bismarck Barons. Bases-loaded doubles by Bill
Jankowski and Gerald Didier helped the Packers to an
eight-run inning. Sam Hill's three-run homer was the big blow for
the Barons.

August 19 - In a tilt which featured five home
runs, Minot Mallards downed Williston 6-3 in the first game of a
double-header. Duke Bowman, Ed Barr and
Chuck Orner had homers for the Mallards with Bill
Raehse and Preston Elkins belting round trippers for
the Oilers. Mallards swept the day with a 2-1 victory in the
second game as Sugar Cain recorded his 10th win. Cain
scored the Mallards first run after doubling in the third.

departing Bismarck to resume his teaching duties, Fred Brenzel
scattered seven hits over eight innings to pace the Barons to a 7-3 win
