(June 21) Lefthander Ben Baker
held Huron to five hits as Pierre Cowboys blanked the Jims 4-0. The game
was scoreless until the 8th when Pierre loaded the bases and Bill
Raeshe's single scored a pair. Ted Schreiber
had three hits for the winners.

hits and Mitchell downed the Cowboys 4-2. Gene Duffy
had a two-run homer for the winners and Hal Daugherty

homer proved to be the difference as Rapid City topped Yankton 6-4.

Ed Schiltz doubled in Dean Look with the winning
run in the sixth inning then scored the insurance marker on
Dick Colloton's single as Mitchell Kernels handed Huron its
5th straight loss, 6-4. Gene Duffy and Joe
Lutz belted homers for the winners. Carl Bush had a
four-bagger for Huron. Ed Hammond was the winner in relief.

(June 28) Yankton had just eight hits but
three of them were homers as the Terrys downed Pierre 7-1.

Klaus had the circuit blows. Each score a pair of runs.
Frank Anderson went the distance for the win. Ben
Baker took the loss. Bill Raehse went 2 for 2
for the Cowboys.

Rapid City erupted for three runs with two out in the bottom of the 9th
inning to down Huron 8-7. Daylon Todd's two-run double to centre
was the key hit. Don Quayle homered for the Chiefs.
Carl Bush led the losers with a pair of doubles.
Bruce Haroldson, the third pitcher for the chiefs picked up
the win.

Valentine errors to shade the Hearts 3-2. Billy Wells of
the Hearts had the only homer.

pass. John Herrnstein knocked in three runs with a

(July 25) Pierre Cowboys notched their 7th straight win in
the second half of the split schedule with a 4-3, 10-inning, triumph
over Rapid City Chiefs. Pierre scored in the bottom of the 9th to tie
then scored in the extra frame for the win. Chiefs took a lead in the
first on Dolph Regelsky's homer. They went up 3-0 in the 3rd on
successive singles by Lee Carey, Regelsky and
Len Hunt. Cowboys stormed back in the 3rd on Bill
Raehse's two-run homer. In the 9th, Ted Schreiber
singled to scored pinch-runner Ben Baker with the tying
run. In the 10th, John Edwards' bases loaded
sacrifice fly scored Carl Paylor with the winner. Hank
Hamrick picked up the win.

(August 12) It was a night of offense in the Basin League.
Carl Bush clubbed three homers and drove in seven runs to pace
Huron to a 10-2 win over Watertown. The outburst gave Bush 14
homers and 42 runs batted in. Jack Tarr held the Lake Sox
to seven hits in registering the win. Len Van De Hey had
three hits and scored three runs for the Jims. Purn Goldy had
three hits for the Sox.

Doc Daugherty belted a grand slam homer and Gene
Duffy had a three-run shot as Mitchell trounced Yankton 13-3.

(August 20) Don Montgomery's single with two out in
the bottom of the 9th inning scored Fred Boiko with the
winning run as Pierre Cowboys captured the Basin League championship
with a thrilling 8-7 win over Valentine Hearts in the final game of
their three-game playoff series. Boiko had doubled to lead
off the frame. Pierre had a 7-6 lead into the final frame but the Hearts
tied the match on Ron Cronan's double scoring Bobby
Burr who had singled.
Valentine had taken a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a walk and singles
by Jerry Vodicka, John Feldman and Burr.
Cowboys got a pair in the bottom of the first and tied it in the 3rd on
hits by Boiko and John Herrnstein.After Pierre had
taken a 5-3 lead, Valentine erupted for three runs in the 7th on a
two-run homer by Cronan and a single shot by Ike Seaone.
Herrnstein's homer in the bottom of the 7th again evened the
count. Another homer, a bases-empty smash by Lamar Jacobs,
gave Pierre the lead after eight. Ben Baker was the winner
in relief.
