June 8 - Regina scored four runs in the top
of the ninth then held on for a 10-6 win over Saskatoon in the opening game
of the 1959 Canadian-American Baseball League season. Senators, under
new playing-coach Wayne Tucker, took advantage of ten hits and five
Saskatoon errors. Blaine Sylvester and Darrell Read combined to limit
the Commodores to six hits, one of them a
towering, fifth inning homer by Gord Morgan. More than
2-thousand fans took in the action at Cairns Field.

June 8 - Len Gabrielson slammed a three-run
homer in the first and a two-run, inside-the-park homer in the fourth, to
lead the Eskimos to a 12-3 victory over Lloydminster-North Battleford to kick off the new
season before nearly 4-thousand fans at Edmonton. Art Ersepke

June 9 - Roger Kudron tossed eight innings of
six-hit ball as Regina topped Saskatoon 9-4 in an error-filled game at Saskatoon. Kudron fanned seven and walked two. Commodores scored
all their runs in the sixth inning on one hit, two walks and five
errors. There were thirteen errors in the game, seven by the Senators.

June 10 - Miles McWilliams drove in
seven runs to lead Williston to a successful debut in the Canadian-American
League. The 18-year-old first baseman slugged a double, triple and
homer as the Oilers beat Regina 10-4. Bob Smith went the distance for
the win. He allowed just six hits while fanning ten. Gary

June 12 - The Eskimos scored five times in
the first inning on the way to a 20-10 trouncing of Saskatoon. Edmonton
pounded out 21 hits, including four from John Werhas and three apiece from
Tom Satriano, Stan Charnofsky and Joe Campise.

paced the Commodores with three hits. Roland Jones allowed eleven hits
but went the distance for the win.

June 12 - Phil Oyler blasted a two-run homer
into the centre field stands in the fifth inning to give the Senators a 2-1
win over Williston in their home opener before 15-hundred fans at Taylor
Field. Blaine Sylvester picked up his second win of the season
with a
six-hit, route-going performance.

that his brother had been killed in a car accident in Salt Lake City.
June 13 - Lefty Bruce Gardner threw a
five-hitter as Regina topped Williston 6-3. Gardner, obtained in a
trade with Edmonton, struck out eight.

June 13 - Saskatoon got its first win as Max
Weekly allowed just three singles as the Commodores beat Edmonton 5-1.
Weekly fanned ten. Pete Estrada led Saskatoon at the plate with three

June 14 - Pitcher Ted Richardson and catcher
Ed Tanner paced the Combines as the club whipped Regina 11-3 at Lloydminster. Tanner had five hits, including a homer and a
triple. Richardson held the Senators to eight hits. Curly

June 14 - Saskatoon took its second straight
from Williston with a 7-4 win before 2-thousand fans at Saskatoon. Gene

June 15 - Lew Hobson struck out
sixteen as Saskatoon shaded Williston 6-5 before 15-hundred fans at Saskatoon. The Canadian lefty gave up
six hits and walked seven and, through the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings, fanned
nine straight hitters. Gord Morgan paced the Gems with two
hits.

Ersepke each had three hits in leading Edmonton to a 10-5 win over
Regina at Renfrew Park. Gary Linthicum had a three-run

the way for his second win as Edmonton downed Regina 8-2. It was
the Eskimos fifth win in six starts.

grand slam broke the game wide open as the Combines whipped the Commodores
12-1 in North Battleford. Gabby Hormann had four hits
and Ed Tanner added three. Bob Bennett's homer accounted for the
lone Saskatoon run. Playing-manager Mike
Dayne held Saskatoon to five hits in registering the win.
Saskatoon announced that Bennett and Ed
Dilley would be returning to the States. Both were filling in
until Jim Garrett and Joe Fischer had completed
their college playoffs.

June 18 - Regina scored four runs in the
first inning, three on a homer by Gary Linthicum, to down the
Lloydminster-North Battleford Combines 8-3. Cliff Pemberton
had three hits for the Senators, drove in a pair and stole two bases.
He stole home in the sixth inning as part of a double-steal with Phil
Oyler.

June 18 - In a wild one in Williston, six
pitchers gave up 16 hits, 22 walks and hit four batters. In the end,
Saskatoon walked away with an 11-7 win over the Oilers. Rennie Crittenden

June 19 - Roger Kudron allowed
just two hits in leading Regina to a 5-2 win over the Combines. A
first inning double by Curly Williams and a fifth inning
double by Monte Bond were the only safeties for Lloydminster-North Battleford.
Shortstop Roger Tomlinson belted a homer for the Senators and Gary
Linthicum chipped in with a triple and a single.

June 19 - Catcher Jimmy Garrett
delivered a bases-loaded, two-run single in the seventh inning to give
Saskatoon a 4-3 comeback win over the Oilers at Williston. Max Weekly,
who relieved starter Lew Hobson in the second, shutdown the
Oilers the rest of the way for the win.

June 20 - The Combines took advantage of five

June 21 -- Edmonton scored three runs in the
11th inning on three walks and singles by Fred Scott and Len
Gabrielson to beat the Oilers 11-8. Williston hurlers gave up
fifteen walks. Scott drove in five runs for the Eskimos with a double
and three singles. Art Ersepke and Stan Charnofsky
hit homers for Edmonton while Miles McWilliams had a homer and
two doubles for Williston and Al Leap added a homer.

June 22 - Edmonton notched its second
straight, 4-3, eleven inning win at Williston. Ken Yaryan
and Roland Jones combined on a four-hitter for the
Eskimos. Tom Satriano's homer was the winning blow. Only
150 fans took in the contest.

June 22 - Canadian lefty Lew Hobson
shutout Regina on seven hits as Saskatoon scored a 4-0 win. Third
baseman Eloyd Robinson led the Commodores with four hits.

League commissioner Keith Erne
announced he had upheld Saskatoon's protest of the Combines 4-3 win on
Sunday. He said the Combines had broken the rules by listing Ed
Tanner as a local player. Erne said Tanner could not be
categorized as a local player as there was no doubt he was receiving a monthly salary as a
regular. Players of local status are to
receive only expenses on the days they dress for league games.
June 23 - Saskatoon rallied for three runs in
the bottom of the ninth to beat Regina 4-3. Eloyd Robinson
drove in Danny Adams with the winner.

June 23 - The Eskimos made a clean sweep of
their three game series in Williston with their eighth win in nine starts,
an 11-3 triumph over the Oilers. Edmonton scored six in the fourth
inning. Williston's Dave Moore
had the only homer. It was the Oilers ninth straight loss after a
season-opening victory.

June 24 - Pete Estrada drove in
five runs with two homers and a single as Saskatoon trounced the Combines
10-5 before 800 fans at North Battleford. Commodores starter Rennie
Crittenden helped at the plate with a single, double and
triple. Curly Williams, of the Combines, had the only
home run. Bill VanderLaan, a right-hander from Visalia,
California, joined the Commodores. He had hoped to be with Saskatoon
earlier in the season but Boston Red Sox assigned him to Waterloo,
Iowa. VanderLaan asked to be placed on the voluntary retired list and
the team agreed.

June 25 - Lloydminster-North Battleford scored two in the bottom of
the ninth to edge Saskatoon 7-6 to move into sole possession of second
place. The winning run scored on two
Saskatoon errors. Monte Bond, who scored the tying run
in the ninth, had four hits for the Combines.. Norm Popkin,
the Commodore reliever, had the only homer.

June 25 - Reliever Darrell Read
was a key as Regina swept a twin-bill from the Eskimos, 6-4 and 4-1.
Read was the winner in the opener with 2 2/3s shutout innings and he came
back with 3 2/3s innings of shutout pitching in the nightcap to preserve the win for
starter Bruce Gardner. Cliff Pemberton and
Phil Oyler each had four hits on the day.

Saskatoon reported a series of
injuries. Lefty Max Weekly was put on the shelf with inflamed
tendons in his pitching hand while regular catcher Jim Garrett
remained out of action with a badly sprained ankle. Shortstop Danny
Adams missed Wednesday's game in North Battleford. The club
announced that right-hander Bill VanderLaan, from Visalia,
California had reported to the team. Also joining the pitching staff
was Mike Gaston a lefty who pitched with the Winnipeg Goldeyes
in 1957 and 1958.
June 26 - Saskatoon got two unearned runs in
the first inning and that was all the scoring as the Commodores beat the
Eskimos 2-0 before just 952 fans at Edmonton. Joe Fischer's
double, one of only two Saskatoon hits, drove in both runs. Lew
Hobson got the win holding the Eskimos to four hits. Roland
Jones took the loss.

Official league statistics, released Friday,
showed Edmonton's John Werhas atop the batting race with a .476
mark. Teammate Tom Satriano was second at .391. The
Combines' Ed Tanner followed at .385. Miles McWilliams
of Williston and Pete Estrada of Saskatoon were tied for the
RBI lead, each with eleven. Tom Bergeron of Lloydminster-North Battleford
had the
most runs scored, 12.
June 27 - Saskatoon scored five runs in the
first two innings and held on to shade the Eskimos 8-6 before 15-hundred fans

June 28 - Edmonton broke a four-game losing
streak beating the Combines 5-3 with a three-run uprising in the 8th. Len
Gabrielson led the Esks with a triple and a double. Mike White
had a homer for the Combines.

The Eskimos lost three games at the
conference table. A special meeting of league directors ruled that
Edmonton catcher Steve Bach was the property of the Williston
Oilers. Bach was in the lineup for the Eskimos' three-game sweep in
Williston. Those three games were awarded to the Oilers and Bach was
ordered to report to Williston or face a one-year suspension. Bach was
the subject of a pre-season dispute between Edmonton and Williston.
June 29 - The Eskimos won a 16-10
slugfest with the Combines. Roland Jones, normally a
pitcher, played the outfield for Edmonton and had a bases-loaded
triple. Art Ersepke knocked in five runs for the
Esks. Combines lost the services of centre fielder Monte Bond
who suffered a possible fractured leg while stealing second base in the
eighth inning.
