 July 1 -  Combines scored four runs in the ninth to erase a 4-1 deficit and beat Saskatoon 5-4 in the first game of a double-header.  Curly Williams belted a three-run homer to tie and Dave Moriarty singled in Art Stone with the winner. The two catchers, Ed Tanner of the Combines and Jim Garrett of the Gems were ejected after a home plate scuffle in the fifth inning.  Garrett, trying to score from third base,  bowled Tanner over and the Combines catcher came up swinging.  Alton Arnold tossed a six-hitter for the win. In the second game, Morris Yates held Lloydminster-North Battleford to six hits as the Gems won, 6-2.  Crowds of better than 3-thousand watched the games at Cairns Field.

July 1 -  Edmonton took a pair from Williston, 11-8 and 9-3.  Tom Satriano had a homer and five runs batted in as the Eskimos won the opener.  Edmonton exploded for four runs in the eighth to break a 7-7 tie. Zoonie McLean had three hits for the Oilers. Jim Sims tossed a four-hitter to lead Edmonton to the win in the second game.  John Werhas clouted a two-run homer while Satriano added a double and two singles.

July 2 - Norm Forsythe won his fifth straight with a three-hitter over Williston as the Eskimos trounced the Americans 13-1.  Forsythe also contributed three hits as did Stan Charnofsky.

July 4 - Edmonton's four-run sixth inning was the difference as the Eskimos beat Saskatoon 5-2 for their sixth straight win.  Esks got their four runs on three triples, from John Werhas, Len Gabrielson and Stan Charnofsky, and a double by Joe Campise.

July 4 - Combines scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to take a 6-5 win from Williston.  Oilers lost despite homers from Dave Smith, Miles McWilliams and Bill LynnCurly Williams replied for the Combines.

July 5 -  Bill Heath's two-out, 10th inning triple gave Edmonton an 8-5 win over Saskatoon.  It was Heath's second three-bagger of the game.  John Werhas added a homer for the Esks while Eloyd Robinson had a three-run homer for the Commodores.  Roland Jones went the distance for Edmonton allowing just six hits but he walked 10 and hit a batter.

July 5 -  The Combines and Oilers split a twin-bill at North Battleford.  In the opener, Mark Clarke pitched a four-hitter and got home run support from Ray Haroldson and Miles McWilliams as Williston won 3-2.   Don Buford drove in Art Stone with the winning run in the ninth as the Combines beat Williston 4-3 in the second game.

July 6 -  Gary LaComb raced home from second base on an error in the 10th inning to give Regina an 8-7 come-from-behind victory over the Combines.  Ron Stillwell and Phil Oyler each had three hits for the Senators. Cliff Pemberton added a triple and a single.  Leadoff man Don Buford had two hits for the Combines.

July 6 -  Williston battered Saskatoon pitchers for 14 hits, including three homers, to score an 8-5 win in the American city.  Pitchers Marvin Dutt and Bob Blakeslee and outfielder Bill Lynn hit the homers for the Oilers.  Joe Fischer had a four-bagger for the Gems while Rennie Crittenden had two doubles and a single.

July 7 -  Williston scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to edge Saskatoon 3-2.  The game was called after five innings.  Bill Lynn and Zoonie McLean each had two hits for the Oilers.

July 7 -  Regina and the Combines fought to a 1-1 tie in a game halted by rain.  The teams were scheduled to finish the contest in August.  Alton Arnold and Bruce Gardner each gave up just two hits.

July 8 -  Norm Forsythe was the star on the hill and at the plate as Edmonton shutout the Combines 2-0.  Forsythe pitched a two-hitter and scored an insurance run in the eighth when he doubled and came home on Fred Scott's single.  Lefty Kelly Searcy took the loss in his first game with Lloydminster-North Battleford.

July 8 -  Regina delighted the home fans with a double-header sweep of Saskatoon, 2-1 and 13-0.  Senators got just four hits off Max Weekly in the opener, but scored two unearned runs in the first inning and made them stand up for the win.  Darrell Read got the victory, allowing the Gems just four hits and an unearned run.  In the second game, Regina had 14 hits in trouncing the Gems.  Roger Tomlinson had four hits and Cliff Pemberton had four runs batted in.  Blaine Sylvester held the Gems to four hits in gaining the shutout victory.

July 9 -  Bob Kavigan and Darrell Read combined on a two-hit shutout as Regina again blanked the Gems, 4-0.  It was the seventh straight loss for Saskatoon.  Phil Oyler had three hits for the Senators who got the only run they needed when Oyler scored on a passed ball in the second inning.

July 9 -  The Combines embarrassed the Eskimos at Edmonton stopping the Esks eight game win streak by taking both ends of a double-header, 7-2 and 7-3.  Lloydminster-North Battleford got outstanding pitching.  Mike Dayne tossed a five-hitter in the opener and Ted Richardson allowed just four hits in the second game.   Len Gabrielson and Stan Charnofsky had homers for Edmonton in the opener, while Dave Kosteniuk had three hits and Don Buford chipped with in a double and a triple.  Mike Gillespie homered for the Esks in the nightcap.

July 10 -  Regina broke a tie with five runs in the top of the ninth inning and beat Edmonton 10-5.  Senators scored their runs on two hits and four errors.  Esks committed eight miscues overall.  Bruce Gardner picked up the win in relief.

July 10 -  Norm Popkin and reliever Lew Hobson held Williston to six hits as the Gems broke a seven-game losing streak with a 5-2 win before 14-hundred fans at Cairns Field.  Eloyd Robinson led the winners with three hits.  Joe Fischer accounted for the final Saskatoon run with a steal of home in the eighth.

July 11 -  Miles McWilliams of Williston was the new batting leader in the Canadian-American Baseball League.  McWilliams, at .375, led teammate Bill Lynn, at .371.  Pete Estrada of Saskatoon had the most homers, 4. Max Weekly of Saskatoon had the best ERA, 2.16, ahead of Edmonton's Norm Forsythe, at 2.22.  Gene Graves of the Gems had the most strikeouts, 49.

July 11 - Jim Withers pitched a shutout and chipped in with a three-run triple to lead Edmonton to a 7-0 win over Regina.  Tom Satriano had a homer for the Esks.  Wayne Tucker had three hits for the Senators.

July 11 - Saskatoon beat Williston 7-6.  Eloyd Robinson led the Gems at the plate with three singles.  Miles McWilliams and Frank Neri each had two hits for the Oilers.

July 12 - Dan Adams' homer in the 13th inning broke up a superb pitching duel as the Gems edged the Combines 2-1.  Max Weekly, Gene Graves and Lew Hobson combined to limit Lloydminster-North Battleford to just six hits.  Bill Powell went all the way for the Combines allowing just eight hits.

July 12 -  It was also a day for the pitchers at Edmonton as the Eskimos scored a 1-0 win over Regina.  Norm Forsythe threw his second consecutive shutout allowing the Senators just six hits.  The right-hander also drove in the only run with a bases-loaded single in the fourth inning.

July 13 - Curly Williams drove in four runs with a homer, double and single as the Combines beat Saskatoon 8-6.  Don Buford also had three hits, including a homer.

July 13 - With three major league scouts in the stands, Edmonton beat Regina 9-5.  A parade of triples highlighted the contest.  There were eight, two each by Stan Charnofsky and Len Gabrielson of the Eskimos.  John Werhas, Cliff Pemberton, Phil Oyler and Ray Boaz also belted three-baggers.  At least three were a result of fly balls lost in the lights.  Charnofsky had four hits to lead the Esks.

July 14 - Reliever Bob Blakeslee cut short a ninth inning rally by the Meridians as Williston hung on for an 8-7 win.  Trailing 8-4, Lloydminster-North Battleford scored three in the ninth before Blakeslee put out the fire.  Playing-manager Zoonie McLean drove in four runs with a homer, double and single.  Curly Williams, Tom Bergeron and Frank Neri, who signed with the Combines Tuesday, had doubles for the losers.

July 14 - A six-run fifth inning carried Edmonton to a 9-6 win over the Senators in Regina.  Three walks, singles by John Werhas and Stan Charnofsky and back-to-back triples by Bill Heath and Len Gabrielson accounted for the six runs. Heath led the Eskimos with three hits and three RBI.

July 15 - Lloydminster-North Battleford scored four in the seventh then held on to shade Williston 7-6.  Don Buford led the Meridians with a double and single.  Bill Lynn had four hits for the Oilers and Zoonie McLean had three.

July 15 -  The Senators swept a pair from Edmonton before the home fans, 5-4 and 8-5.  In a scheduled seven inning first game, Roger Tomlinson's homer in the bottom of the seventh forced an extra inning.  In the first extra frame, Tomlinson's long fly ball scored pitcher Darrell Read with the winner.  Cliff Pemberton was the only Senator with two hits. Len Gabrielson led the Esks with four, including two triples, the fourth and fifth three-baggers for the Eskimo outfielder in three games.  In the second game, Senators had thirteen hits, including a homer from Phil Oyler and triples by Pemberton, Ron Stillwell and Gary LinthicumStan Charnofsky had four hits for Edmonton.  Former Eskimo, Blaine Sylvester went the distance for the win.  There were fifteen triples in the four game series.

July 16 - At Williston, the Oilers scored ten runs in the first two innings and coasted to an 11-3 win over Lloydminster-North Battleford.  Meridians got an early taste of what was coming.  Williston's leadoff hitter, Larry Exel, blasted a homer.  Bob Blakeslee tossed a six-hitter for the win.

July 16 - At Saskatoon, the Commodores rocked Edmonton's ace starter, Norm Forsythe for sixteen hits, but the Eskimos came away with an 8-7 victory.  Forsythe picked up his 8th win against no losses.  He fanned thirteen.  Edmonton had just 10 hits, only one for extra bases.  Pete Estrada had two doubles and a single for Saskatoon while Ron Boone and Jim Garrett each had three singles.

July 17 - Jim Sims pitched a one-hitter as Edmonton shutout the Commodores 5-0 at Saskatoon.  Pete Estrada's seventh inning single was the only hit off Sims. He fanned eleven and walked four.  Tom Satriano paced the Eskimos with three hits. Saskatoon made eight errors, allowing four unearned runs.

July 17 - Bruce Gardner allowed ten hits and four walks but pitched out of trouble as Regina beat Williston 7-3.  Ray Boaz had four hits for the Senators while Frank Neri, who suited up with his third team, drove in three runs with a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly.  Ray Sims went the distance on the hill for the Oilers and had a big day at the plate with four hits.

July 18 -  League statistics showed Miles McWilliams still atop the batting race with a mark of .400,  just ahead of teammate Bill Lynn at .396.  Stan Charnofsky of Edmonton was third with a .354 average and Cliff Pemberton of Regina had a .344 mark.  Norm Forsythe of Edmonton topped the pitchers with an ERA of 1.64.  Max Weekly of Saskatoon was second at 1.74 and Blaine Sylvester of Regina third at 2.17.  

July 18 - Williston took both ends of a double-header at Regina, 8-4 and 3-0.  In the first game, the Oilers got a six-hitter by Marvin Dutt and two, towering home runs by Zoonie McLeanBob Smith tossed a five-hit shutout in the second game.  McLean, who drove in four runs in the opener, had a triple and single in the nightcap. Roger Kudron allowed just six hits for the Senators but the Oilers took advantage of three walks and three errors.

July 18 -  Morris Yates out dueled Roland Jones as Saskatoon edged Edmonton 4-2. Pete Estrada had a double and two singles for the Commodores.  Rennie Crittenden tripled and scored the winner on a wild pitch in the 7th.  Eskimos were without Len Gabrielson, who returned to California to enter negotiations with four major league clubs trying to sign him.

July 19 - Ernie Kumerow pitched a two-hitter to lead the Oilers to a 5-1 win over the Commodores at Williston.  The lone Saskatoon run was unearned.  Miles McWilliams blasted a three-run homer for Williston in the eighth.

July 19 - Eskimos and Combines split their twin-bill at Lloydminster.  Art Ersepke's homer and seven-hit pitching by Jim Withers gave Edmonton a 6-4 win in the first game while Kelly Searcy held the Esks to seven hits in the second game as the Meridians won, 4-3.  Searcy fanned nine and walked three.

July 20 - Lloydminster-North Battleford handed Norm Forsythe his first loss after eight straight wins as the Combines downed the Eskimos 7-2.  Alton Arnold checked the Esks on seven hits and Ed Tanner gave the Combines the early lead with a first inning homer.

July 20 - The Oilers delighted the home fans with five runs in the bottom of the ninth to pull out a 10-9 win over Saskatoon.  Bill Hockenbury's three-run homer was the key blow.  Gord Morgan drove in the winner with a double.  Zoonie McLean also had a homer for the Oilers.  Ron Boone contributed a triple and two singles for the Commodores.

July 22 - Behind the three-hit pitching of Roland Jones, Edmonton stopped Williston 5-1 before 14-hundred fans at Renfrew Park.  Eskimos did all their scoring in the first inning.  Oilers' Ray Sims, who allowed just five hits in going the distance, walked four straight to force in the first run.  A sac fly scored another, and two more scored on an error.  A single drove in the fifth run.

July 22 - Saskatoon took a pair from the Senators at Regina, 11-2 and 6-0, before 12-hundred fans at Taylor Field.  Commodore pitching allowed just six hits, three in each game.  Max Weekly, Morris Yates and Norm Popkin combined to win the opener while Gene Graves and Popkin pitched the nightcap.  Saskatoon newcomer Jeff Williams belted a three-run homer in the second inning and another in the seventh with a man aboard to lead the first game offensive. Dan Adams contributed a triple and two singles and Jim Garrett had three hits.  In the second game, Eloyd Robinson was the big gun with a triple and two singles.  Pete Estrada and Garrett each had two hits.  Graves was bounced from the game for protesting a pitch in the second inning.  Regina lost the services of left-handed pitcher Bob Theiss who returned to Cleveland after learning of the death of his father.

July 22 - Williston reported that its slugging first baseman, Miles McWilliams, had signed a pro contract with Cincinnati Reds.  

July 23 - Curly Williams smashed a three-run homer in the first inning and the Combines went on to a 9-3 victory over Regina.  It was the Senators fifth straight defeat.  Williams had five runs batted in.  Don Buford had three hits and scored three times.  Ted Richardson picked up the win holding Regina to seven hits.

July 23 - Edmonton scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to beat Williston 4-3.  It was the Eskimos' eleventh consecutive win over the Oilers.  Edmonton scored the tying and winning runs on a walk, wild pitch and two errors.

July 24 - Lloydminster-North Battleford scored on an error in the 11th inning to hand Regina its sixth straight defeat, 6-5.  Combines had came from behind with a run in the ninth to send the game into extra innings.  Curly Williams' third inning triple knocked in three runs. Williams was ejected in the seventh for protesting a call at second base.  Jerry Bryson, who scored the winning run, allowed the Senators' first run to score when he lost Frank Neri's fly ball in the lights and it went for an inside-the-park homer.  Neri had three hits for Regina.  Dave Kosteniuk picked up the win in relief.  He retired all seven batters he faced.

July 24 - Bill Lynn of Williston took over the lead in the batting race with a .415 average.  Miles McWilliams slipped into a tie for second with Edmonton's Stan Charnofsky, both at .398.  Cliff Pemberton of Regina was fourth, at .354.  McWilliams and Curly Williams of Lloydminster-North Battleford led in homers, each with five.  Norm Forsythe of Edmonton continued to lead the pitchers, with an ERA of 2.04.  

July 24 - Norm Forsythe held Williston to just three hits as Edmonton defeated the Oilers 3-0 in a game called after six innings by rain.  Forsythe also singled in the first Eskimo run.  Art Ersepke doubled in the second run and scored the third on a wild pitch.  It was Forsythe's ninth win against one defeat.

July 25 - The Combines scored their fifth consecutive win shading the cellar-dwelling Williston Oilers 2-0 before 600 fans at Sportsman's Park.  Lefty Alton Arnold won his fourth straight tossing a four-hitter.  Arnold stuck out three while issuing only one free pass. Ed Tanner knocked in both runs, tripling home John Ford in the third and pushing Curly Williams home with a two-out single in the fifth.  The Combines had six hits off loser Bob Smith.   Art Stone and Tanner each had two hits while Arnold and Tom Bergeron had one apiece.

July 25 - Jim Withers hurled a five-hitter as Edmonton shutout Saskatoon 5-0.  One of the Eskimos six hits was an inside-the-park homer by Tom Satriano.

July 26 - A grand slam homer by Curly Williams sparked the Combines to a 10-4 win over Williston in Canadian-American League action at Abbott Field at North Battleford. The Beaver-Meridians, who won for the sixth straight time, pounded home five runs in each of the fifth and eighth innings to walk off with the win.  Lefty Kelly Searcy went the distance for his third win, allowing only six hits.  He struck out nine and walked seven.   

After the teams had played  through four and a half scoreless innings, the Combines loaded the bases on consecutive singles by Don Buford and Ken Nelson and a walk to Monte Bond.  Williams then cleared the bases. Before reliever Ray Sims could put out the fire the Combines scored another as Searcy singled home John Ford.   The Oilers pushed across four runs in the seventh but the Combines scored five more in the eighth.

All the runs against Searcy were unearned.  Bill Hockenbury had a homer for Williston.

July 26 - Art Ersepke's three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth gave the Eskimos a 14-11 win in a slugfest at Edmonton.  It was one of seven home runs in the game.  Rennie Crittenden had a grand slam for the Commodores.  John Werhas and Fred Scott also had four-baggers for Edmonton while Pete Estrada, Dan Adams and Joe Fischer added homers for Saskatoon.

July 27 -  Lefty Ted Richardson allowed just six hits in winning his fifth game and he helped at the plate with a homer as the Combines downed Regina 5-1.  The Senators had earlier stopped the Combines six game win streak with a 2-1 victory in the completion of the July 7th contest which was called after five innings by rain.  

A four-run fifth inning carried the Combines to their win.  Bruce Gardner walked the first three batters in the fifth.  Reliever Roger Barnson, in his first game in the circuit, struck out Tom Bergeron but gave up back-to-back doubles to Curly Williams and Monte Bond.  The two runs batted in for Williams gave him thirteen runs batted in over the last four games.  

Richardson's homer cleared both fences and traveled an estimated 400 feet. The Senators pushed across their single tally in the seventh as fleet centrefielder Ray Boaz doubled to score pinch hitter Gary LaComb who had walked.

In the completion contest, the Senators broke the 1-1 deadlock as Frank Neri singled in Phil Oyler in the sixth. Gardner, who had pitched the previous five innings on July 7th, picked up where he left off and gained his fifth win. Dave Kosteniuk, who took over for Alton Arnold, was the loser.

July 27 -  Williston scored five unearned runs in the fourth inning and held on to beat Saskatoon 6-4.  Mark Clarke went the distance for the win.  He gave up eight hits, fanned six and walked ten.

July 28 - The Regina Senators broke their seven game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Combines at North Battleford.  Wayne Tucker and Gary Linthicum each poked solo homers in the fourth to give the Senators their margin of victory.  Roger Kudron took the win to even his season's record at 4-4.  Bill Powell was charged with the loss, his fourth straight after winning two.  Curly Williams blasted his eighth homer of the year in the sixth.  He collected two RBI.

July 28 - Saskatoon pounded out sixteen hits, including four triples, to down Williston 8-2.  Pete Estrada had three hits for the Commodores.  University of Arizona lefty Norm Popkin pitched a seven-hitter for the win and added a triple and single at the plate.  Ernie Kumerow drove in both Oilers' runs with a triple and two singles.

July 29 -- Mick Mousalam and Mike White each had three hits to lead the Combines to a comeback 4-3 win over Saskatoon. The Combines took the lead in the second inning on Don Buford's two-run triple. The Commodores bounced back in the fourth to tie and Len Breckner's solo homer in the sixth gave the Commodores the lead. Combines scored the tying and winning runs in the seventh on a walk to Curly Williams, and successive singles to Ken Nelson and MousalamAlton Arnold, who needed help from Dave Kosteniuk in the eighth, took the win.  It was the lefthander's fifth straight victory.  Saskatoon catcher Jim Garrett picked three men off base with pin-point throws.

July 29 -  Bill Hockenbury blasted a pair of two-run homers to lead the Oilers to an 8-6 win over Edmonton at Williston.  It was the first time the Oilers had beaten the Eskimos.  Hockenbury added a single, good for his fifth RBI.  Joe Campise had a homer for Edmonton.

July 30 -  Speedy Don Buford scored on an error in the 14th inning to give the Combines a 7-6 win over Saskatoon.  Buford had been caught in a "hot box" between third and home but pitcher Gene Graves threw the ball well over the head of catcher Jim Garrett. Combines had tallied one in the ninth to tie. Commodores threatened in the bottom of the 14th as Lee Murphy sent a long fly ball to deep centre field only to have Buford make a spectacular catch.  Mike Dayne, third of four Combine pitchers, picked up the victory.  Dayne pitched 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to gain his fourth win of the campaign.   Gene Graves who pitched 11 2/3 innings in relief was charged with the loss.   Mike White, brilliant in the field, collected three hits.  He also had three Wednesday night.  The Commodores outhit the Combines 16 to 8. The game featured several defensive gems.  Third baseman Curly Williams robbed Garrett from driving in the winning run in the 9th and White made game-saving catches off Jeff Williams in the 9th and Garrett in the 13th.

July 30 - Williston scored five in the eighth to edge Edmonton 12-11.  Mike Gillespie, Joe Campise and Art Ersepke homered for the Eskimos.  Bill Lynn led the Oilers with a pair of doubles.

July 31 - The Regina Senators pounded out 22 hits to wallop the Combines 20-9.  The Senators had a 19-1 lead after six innings.   Regina's Phil Oyler drove in six runs with a grand slam homer and three singles. Ed Tanner had a bases empty homer for the Combines.  Don Buford had a triple, while Tom Bergeron added a double and three singles and Monte Bond picked up three singles.  Roger Barnson, although tagged for 15 hits, went the distance and picked up the win.  The loss kept the Combines in second place, one and a half games behind the Edmonton Eskimos.

July 31 - Norm Forsythe scattered seven hits to post his 11th victory as Edmonton beat Williston 6-1.  Mark Clarke pitched a six-hitter for the Oilers and fanned 13, but also walked 13.  Joe Campise had a two-run homer for the Esks in the first inning.
