Ray Boaz in the
bottom of the ninth inning as the Regina Senators edged the Combines 4-3 at Taylor Field
in Regina. Newcomer Frank Warren, making his first start in the Can-Am League, went
the distance for the win. Alton Arnold also went the route in losing his first game
after five straight victories. Don Buford had a double and
single while Monte Bond had two singles for the Combines.

runs batted in to lead the Commodores to a 7-4 win over
Edmonton. Saskatoon took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on

thump the Williston Oilers 10-3. Ted Richardson pitched a
five-hitter in gaining his
6th win. He stuck out 14 batters. Marv Dutt, relieved by

7th, was the loser. Richardson was also the big man at the plate for the winners.

Aug 3 - Wayne Tucker had a homer and
knocked in three runs as Regina defeated Edmonton 6-2. John Werhas

Aug 3 - In an exhibition game,
Saskatoon whipped the Drain, Oregon Black Sox 8-1. The Sox were
the 1958 semi-pro champions in the United States. Commodores had 14
hits while Lew Hobson, Morris Yates and Rennie Crittenden
combined to hold the visitors to 8 safeties. Peter Estrada
led Saskatoon with three hits while Dan Adams and Lee Murphy
each had a pair. Dick Montee went all the way for Drain.
The Black Sox, who operate independently
under owner Harold Woolley, won the National Baseball Congress title in 1958
with a seven-game sweep in Wichita. The Sox won 46 of 52 games.
It was the team's third season as an independent club. Previously, the Sox
played in the Southwest Oregon league winning the title four times in six
seasons. The loop folded in 1956. Drain played two games against
Edmonton. The first ended in a scoreless tie when called by rain after
five innings. Eskimos won the second contest 2-1.

Aug 4 - Elwood Hahn held the
Commodores to five hits as Drain Black Sox scored a 4-1 win in an exhibition
contest in Saskatoon. Hahn fanned 11 and walked three. Saskatoon
manager Roy Taylor starter a 17-year-old junior pitcher, Ross
Stone, who went the distance. Commodores had a triple play in the
ninth.

Aug 4 - Williston pounded out 17 hits to edge
the Combines 9-8 at Williston. The Oilers scored the winning run in
the bottom of the ninth with Ray Haroldson driving in the winner.

Aug 4 - Regina blew a 7-0 lead and fell
to the Eskimos, 8-7. Edmonton scored five in the sixth, helped by
triples from Bill Heath and Tom Satriano. Joe Campise had three hits
for the Eskimos. Phil Oyler knocked in three for the Senators with a
bases-loaded double.

Aug 5 - The Combines erased a 1-0 deficit with three runs
in the bottom of the 8th to down the Regina Senators 3-1. A streak of wildness by
Roger Kudron, the Regina starter, and clutch hitting by Curly
Williams and John Ford
proved to be the difference. After getting the first man, Jerry Bryson,
to ground out, Tom Bergeron and Don Buford were issued free passes. Wayne Tucker pulled Kudron in favour of
ace reliever Darrell Read. Read walked Bond to load the sacks.

brought home the tying marker with a sacrifice fly to right field. Tanner was
given an intentional walk and John Ford then poked a
sharp single over second to bring in two runs and give the Combines their 24th victory.
The Combines had only three hits off the combined

right-hander Darrell Read pitched a complete game seven-hitter to lead
Regina to a 6-2 win over Williston. Ron Stillwell led the Senators at

took an early 5-0 lead over Saskatoon but watched the Commodores
score 14 runs in
the seventh inning to win 14-10. Saskatoon sent seventeen
men to the plate in the fateful inning. Grand slam homers,
by Pete Estrada and Eloyd Robinson, were among the hits. Pitcher Bill
Powell and catcher Jerry Bryson had homers for the
Combines.

and twelve in the nightcap.

Canadian-American baseball league doubleheader from Regina
Senators, 2-1 and 6-5.
In the opener, Marv Dutt
limited the Senators to four hits. Oilers got only three hits off
losing pitcher Bruce Gardner. Williston scored a run in the
first inning on an error and Bill Lynn's single. Senators tied
the score in the second on a hit batsman and three walks.
Oilers scored the winner in the fourth as Larry Exel tripled
home Gord Morgan.
In the second game, Ray Sims was
the winning pitcher and helped out at the dish with a two-run
triple. Exel had three singles and Lynn a double and two singles.

Aug 9 - Edmonton's Joe Campise singled
and scored on an error in the 14th inning as the Eskimos beat Saskatoon Commodores
5-4 in Canadian-American league play at Edmonton. Eskimos
jumped off to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, but needed
a run in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-4 tie. Ralph Vold was credited
with the win, his first of the season. Lew Hobson took the loss,
his eighth.

twelfth victory of the year in downing the Lloydminster-North Battleford Combines 9-4.
The Eskimos scored seven runs in the first three innings and added one in the
fourth and fifth to coast to the win. Alton Arnold started for the Combines giving up
seven of the nine runs. Dave Kosteniuk came in with one out in the third and went
the rest of the way. Mike White was the big man for the Combines with two hits.

Aug 11 - Mark Clarke lost his bid for a no-hitter and a win on one pitch in the eighth inning. Ron
Boone's homer, his first of the season, was the only hit the Williston hurler allowed but it
was enough as the Commodores took a 1-0 victory before 1,000 fans at Cairns
Field. Up to the eighth, Clarke
had allowed just three base runners, all on walks. He fanned
ten. It was a heart-breaking loss for the 19-year-old native of
Magrath, Alberta who attends the University of Arizona. Norm Popkin pitched a five-hitter to pick up the

pitcher Sugar Cain to their pitching staff to replace Bob Smith
who had to return home.
Aug 12 - The Combines scored four runs on four hits in the
fourth inning and held on to edge the Edmonton Eskimos 4-3. Curly
Williams led the
Combines attack with his 10th homer. Tom Bergeron and Don
Buford each had three hits
in five trips. Ted Richardson went the distance picking up his eighth win of the season.

the night before, blasted out sixteen in a 10-0 trouncing of the Oilers at Saskatoon. Rennie Crittenden tossed a six-hitter for
Saskatoon's second straight shutout win over Williston. Eloyd Robinson
had a two-run homer, a triple and three singles to pace the Commodores'
attack. He scored three times and drove in three. Danny

the second and made them stand up for a 5-2 win over Regina. After Zoonie
McLean had led off with a single, Blaine Sylvester
walked three straight batters to force in the first run. Roger Kudron
relieved and was greeted with a single, a ground out and a sac fly which
accounted for four more runs. Marv Dutt went the

let the hitters with three hits.

Aug 14 - Saskatoon lashed out fifteen
hits, including five homers, to crush the Combines 15-4 at North
Battleford. Commodores hit for the "homer" cycle -- Danny
Adams had a grand slam, Eloyd Robinson and Joe Fischer had a
three-run homers, Lee Murphy had a two-run blast and Pete
Estrada added a solo shot. Three of the homers came in the
second inning when the Commodores scored seven runs. Robinson
also had a double and two singles to give him 11 hits in his last three

Aug 15 - The Williston Oilers scored five
runs in the first inning and made them stick for a 5-3
victory over the Edmonton Eskimos in a Canadian-American league
game at Edmonton.
Oilers collected four unearned
runs in the first as a result of two errors by Edmonton
shortstop Freddie Scott and two walks and two hits given up by
Esk's hurler Norm Forsythe. Jim Sims took over from Forsythe in
the second and did not allow another run. He was relieved by
Ralph Vold in the seventh.

who came on in the second to relieve starter Mark Clarke.

for 22 hits and took advantage of seven Eskimos errors as they coasted to a
16-3 win at Renfrew Park. After the game, Edmonton general manager John
Ducey imposed a midnight curfew for players terming the club's play

in double-header action at North Battleford. Kelly Searcy held
the Oilers to eight hits as the Combines won the opener 11-2. Mick

to lead the Combines to 10-6 win. Ford had four hits. Williston

lost a bid for a no-hitter with one out in the seventh as the Senators took
the seven-inning opener of a twin-bill with Edmonton, 3-1. Tom Satriano's

the lone Eskimo run with a sacrifice fly. Edmonton bounced back to win

five-hit, shutout ball as Saskatoon beat Regina 3-0. Graves fanned
ten. Lefty Bruce Gardner was working on a one-hitter when
Saskatoon broke loose for two runs in the 6th. Jeff Williams'
triple scored Eloyd Robinson and Williams scored on a
sacrifice fly. Commodores scored an insurance run in the 8th on Jim
Garrett's single.

Aug 24 - In a wild ending in Williston,
Saskatoon scored four times in the top of the 10th then held on as the
Oilers got three in the bottom of the inning to escape with a 10-9
triumph. The win gave Saskatoon a one game lead over the Oilers in the
battle for the final playoff spot. Jeff Williams, Pete Estrada and Dan
Adams hit homers for the Commodores. Adams also added
three singles while catcher Jim Garrett contributed a pair of
doubles. Garrett ended the contest with a sparkling
defensive play, as he leaped high against the back screen to snag Zoonie
McLean's pop fly for the final out with the tying run on second base.

revealed that pitcher-outfielder Rennie Crittenden might be lost for
the season. Crittenden injured his knee on Sunday and wasn't able to
play Monday.

for Saskatoon. Commodores lost the services of Pete Estrada who
suffered a twisted knee in the warmup. It was feared he would be lost for

Aug 26 - Williston had 13 hits but stranded
14 and lost, 6-3, to Regina. Twice the Oilers left the bases
loaded. Ron Stillwell had a triple and double for the
Senators. The loss dropped the Oilers a full game back of the Commodores in
the fight for the final playoff spot.

Aug 27 - Len Breckner belted
two homers as Saskatoon defeated the Combines 6-2. Gene Graves
tossed a seven-hitter and fanned 13 in gaining his third win in the last six
days.

Aug 27 - Regina erased a 6-2 deficit with
five runs in the sixth inning and beat Williston 7-6. Ron
Stillwell opened the inning with his third hit of the night. Roger
Tomlinson followed with a single and John Regoli drove
one to centre field for what looked like another single, but the ball hopped
over the head of Bill Lynn and rolled to the fence for a three-run
homer. With the bases loaded on walks, newcomer Mike Noakes,
slapped a single to score two more.

Aug 28 - The Senators scored all their runs
in the second inning and went on to beat Saskatoon 6-2. Hits by John
Regoli, Wayne Tucker, Gary Linthicum, Steve
Strother and Mike Noakes and two errors accounted for
the half dozen runs. Lee Murphy had a homer for the
Commodores.

Aug 29 - Edmonton clinched first place in the
league standings as the Eskimos pounded out 24 hits on the
day to sweep a twin-bill from the Combines at Renfrew Park, 9-3 and 12-0. Bill Heath had four hits, including a triple, and Len
Gabrielson had three hits as the Esks won the opener. In the
second game, Norm Forsythe and Ken Yaryan
combined on a one-hitter as Edmonton whipped the Combines 12-0. John
Werhas and Tom Satriano each had three hits for the
winners. The defeats ran the Combines losing streak to five games.

Aug 29 - Shortstop Danny Adams belted
a first inning homer and added three singles to lead Saskatoon to a 10-5 win
over Regina in a sloppy contest that had thirteen errors. The win
clinched the final playoff spot for the Commodores. Reliever Gene
Graves allowed just two hits in 4 1/3 innings to pick up the
win. He fanned seven and walked just one. Commodores announced
that two stars from Williston, outfielder Bill Lynn and pitcher Marvin
Dutt, would be joining the club for the playoffs. The recruits
replaced two injured players, Pete Estrada and Paul Springer.
Saskatoon also lost Len Breckner, who suffered a sprained
ankle, and Ron Boone, who had to return to a California
teaching assignment.

Aug 30 - Mike Dayne threw a
five-hitter as the Combines avoided a double sweep at the hands of the
Eskimos with a 8-4 win in the second game of a twin-bill in
Lloydminster. Ken Nelson had a single, two doubles and a
triple for the Combines while Don Buford chipped in with three
singles. Edmonton won the opener 5-0 as Jim Withers tossed a
three-hitter.

Aug 30 - Marv Dutt won his
seventh game on a seven-hitter as Williston beat Regina 9-6. Dennis
Healy led the Oiler attack with a double and single. Gary
Linthicum had a three-run homer for Regina.

Aug 31 - Edmonton wound up the regular
schedule on a winning note, trouncing the Combines 17-5 at North
Battleford. Eskimos pounded out 19 hits including homers by Tom
Satriano, Len Gabrielson and Ralph Vold.
Satriano also had a triple and two singles.

Aug 31 - Regina closed out the regular
schedule with a 10-7 win over Williston. Senators pounded out sixteen hits
including home runs by Gary Linthicum and John Regoli.
