(August 17) Rapid City Chiefs downed Pierre 6-3 in the
opening game of the best-of-three Basin League final. Dan
Reilly belted a two-run triple and knocked in another with a double.
Bud Haney's towering blast over the right field fence
added a pair of runs. Chuck Willett held the Cowboys to
seven hits. He fanned nine and allowed six bases on balls.
The big right-hander, who spent most of the season in the bullpen, tired
in the late innings giving up four of the walks and three hits in the
last two frames. Woody Carruthers took the loss.
