Alan
Montrevil, shortstop for the Valentine Hearts, has been named the
most valuable player in the Basin League. The New Orleans native
led the loop in hitting with a .370 batting average and in runs scored,
with 49. He was second in doubles, with 12. A student at
Loyola of the South, Montrevil was also among the leaders in runs batted
in, with 37, and home runs, 7. He was one of five players to play
in all of his team's 48 Basin League games. Bill Davis,
first baseman of the Pierre Cowboys, was the runner-up. Davis, of the
University of Minnesota, at 6' 6" and 215 pounds, was the biggest player
in the league. Valentine's Al Closter, Iowa State, and
Bobby Bragan, Mississippi State, of Sturgis Titans, tied for third.
